Exum Injured

Strawman. Nobody dismissed Exum's D. This whole discussion started due to the hilarious fantasy that our playoffs hopes hung on Exum being healthy.

Hang on him? No. Is he a very important part of it? Yes.

Our identity is defense, and he's probably our best perimeter defender (you could argue Hayward). So yeah, considering how many great PG's there are in the league, and that we had somebody who could stop/slow down many of them, he's a pretty friggin big deal. Now we don't get that much of an uptick in offense with burke and a major downgrade in defense. Oh, and our potential star PG tore his ACL which could crush the little confidence he had. Yay!

Both trey and Exum sucked last year.

I think that if exum is out next year then DL/Snyder will come up with an option that is not trey burke

Last I heard Lindsey and company were impressed with the work Burke has put in this off season. Which is one of the reasons he took Burke off the trading block.

I think Exum is already a good defender. I think Exum has potential. I think Exum reaching that potential would be a huge factor in the jazz winning a championship. I think this injury ****ing sucks, is horrible, and I hate it.

I don't think this injury will make next season a wasted season, a boring season, or means that we can't make the playoffs. I think that Exum next year would have very little effect on our wins and losses and there is even a chance, depending on what moves/lineup changes are made, that we are better next year without him.

OK so Trey isn't getting any taller and it's not likely he'll get significantly quicker. Can you tell me how much more skilled he will or won't get? No you can't. His ball handling already got better from year one to two and it showed as he got to the basket easier. Are you telling me his handles are done improving? Not to mention his defense improved at the end of season. Saying the guy can't get better is what I don't understand.

his ball handling is excellent already... in fact so damned good he likes to display it for 15-18 seconds at a time in single offensive possessions very frequently ... and then jack up a dumba$$ shot He can't get to the basket easily because of his lack of pace and hops and he stops our better players getting the ball. His defense may have improved, i'll give you that .. from pathetic to mildly horrendous
Give me Neto any day of the week, or Cotton for that matter.

Exum had a positive impact on the floor. His offense sucked, his defense was tremendous.

I disagree about his defense being tremendous. I think he was a good defender
I think millsap, favors, gobert, and Hayward are all better defenders.
I think that almost everyone on the team is better on offense.

Yes we get that he's a good defender. But he was TERRIBLE offensively, and offense is part of basketball. I wish he was healthy because I hate to see him waste a year of development. But last year, he had to be one of the worst starting PGs in the league, even with his D taken into account.

Maybe so.
Until I see it, I can only go off what I have seen.
Trey sucks until he doesn't

I actually think Neto could be an interesting one year replacement for Dante. Dante did one thing well - he played good on ball defense. He wasn't a playmaker on defense, he didn't shoot well, he didn't create offense for himself or others and didn't rebound well for a guard. On offense, he basically just passed the ball around and let those who were good at offense be good at offense.

If Neto can just be a plus defender - not even at Exum's level, but above average, and actually create offense with dribble penetration, etc, and still be bad everywhere else Exum was bad, he could pretty much replace what Dante brings to the table.

Essentially a little worse defense, better playmaking on offense, little to no scoring and bad shooting, he does the job.

I completely agree with this.... i think it would be a massive step backwards starting Trey

Diagnosed with torn ACL. Dum, Dum, Dah, Dummmm. DL, get on the horn and bring in another pg.

Well that blows. It seems we never get to see our core all the way intact

I hope Vegas thinks this is a huge loss taking the jazz over/under into the 30's.

Unfortunately I bet Vegas will look at Exum production, combined with his youth and inexperience, and not think it's a very big loss.

Trey sucks until he doesn't

This is a fair point. And maybe the report was a complete smokescreen because Lindsey couldn't find any legit takers for Burke. Either way all we have in the off season are reports and that's the last one I've read on the matter.

The natural inclination is to compare Dante to Trey for obvious reasons, but because Trey hurts the team on both offense and defense, it's an easy victory for Dante and ultimately it was for Snyder because Dante started. Hence the comparison to Neto - somebody more similar to Dante, who will play solid D, who won't shoot the team out of games, but who might be a better playmaker.

The accurate way to diagnose a ACL tear is by a MRI. He hasn't had an MRI yet. I've torn my ACL and it took me 3 months to recover. I played with a brace with no ill effects. I don't really get why it takes a professional a year to recover.
