Perhaps, but perhaps it's just that we're more aware of things that have been happening for years but are now more public because so much is getting recorded on cell phones

The Rodney King beating seemed to be the first recording of this type of incident and that seemed more like an isolated incident at the time, when was that, like 20 years ago?

I think, with ordinary people in the course of their everyday lives, things are perhaps improving. But that's just based on what I see in my own experience in my little corner of the world.

Disagree it's just more reporting. IMO, the current rash of racial tension is a result of playing on these incidents for political gain. Yes, it's been happening w/ Sharpton and Jackson for decades, but Holder and Obama have handled these incidents with a very political, biased approach.

Maybe they believe that their approach is necessary to 'change things', or that it is time to shine the light on biases or 'prejudice'... but whatever their intent, it has created a powder keg of an environment which is exacerbating race relations.

Now we have the 'Black Lives Matter'... and you sure as hell better not be stupid enough to say 'All Lives', because white people just cannot understand the 'inherent anti-blackness' in today's policies... I'm white, so that may be true... I've never lived in the South, but I'm not from Utah. I was raised in Portland, and have lived in Maryland and California, so not the 99% Utah 'white'... But unfortunately for the message, it looses some of it's credibility when an activist in the spotlight can't remember that both his parents were white... ? I've always thought Zimmerman was a pissant wanabe cop, and that he should have been convicted of something on the Trayvon murder... but he was an idiot Jr thug. But I go the other way with Michael Brown... he created that situation and sadly, made a very bad decision. Did Michael deserve to die for being a bully and high? No, but it wan't an anti-black crime... it was a cop (white, but could have been black/hispanic/whatever) on his own reacting in a tense situation...

Anyway... way sidetracked... but... it's worse now, and our leaders are stocking it up, not trying to calm the situation. For better or worse, they're exacerbating the situation...

Social media and cell phones go back father than 4-5 years though. I think calling attention to it is great but it seems a side affect is racial tension. Understandable imo.

It's always darkest just before the dawn.

Not really. It's darkest halfway between sunset and sunrise depending on the moon and clouds and stuff. Just before the dawn it has been progressively getting brighter until dawn arrives.

Yep, pretty much, just ignore racism, and it will go away.

This reads pretty much like you cut and pasted it from Breitbart.com

When I was an LDS missionary, the sure sign that discussing the Book of Mormon with anyone was never going to go anywere was when they cited the scripture in Revelation about adding and subtracting.

In similar vein, when discussing race issues, the sure sign that the conservation is going nowhere is when the other person mentions Al Sharpton.

It's like the Godwin's law of race discussions. Sooner or later, someone on the right will invoke Al Sharpton, as if it were sufficient to discredit any and all considerations of race issues that don't pretty much hew the conservative talking points on race issues.

Believe it or not, there's plenty of us progressive who don't take our marching orders from Sharpton.

I know, hard to fathom, but true.

Hahaha

I watched an entire documentary on it, but now I can't remember...

Why'd they let Gretzky go??

The team owner was bleeding money in his other businesses, and was on the verge of selling the team (which surely would have moved elsewhere). He took 15 million, picks, and a couple players for Gretzky (which was a ton for the team at the time).

The aftermath was funny. Pocklington (owner) immediately became the sworn enemy of Edmontonians everywhere and some Canadian members of Parliament (aka congressmen) proposed legislation that would stop the trade.

Dang, so a Dominique Wilkins situation?

Selling The Good One kept the Oilers is Edmingtown?

that's what most think. 100% a financial trade. They did get a decent return, and they even won a Stanley Cup a couple years after he left-- but they bunged the drafts with the picks they got. Still, he'll always be an Oiler. There's a massive freeway here named after El Great 1.
