I still say Jeremy Lin is the best option for the price. He is on a 2 year deal worth like 4 or 5 million. I think he fits our team's mold. He can do a little bit of everything on offense and is still fairly young. He would definitely be an upgrade to Burke.

Jack is a career 44%/35% shooter. But last year his 3PT% really slipped. He's also 31, so perhaps not a guy you'd want to take a chance on.

That's exactly why we should get him. At 31, he's experienced enough to start for a year and maybe teach some leadership qualities and yet not so great that next year, at 32, when Exum returns, that he's going to bitch and moan and cause issues. He'd also be a really solid back-up next season. Better than Burke imo. In short, he's the perfect stop gap.

Also, regarding the dumb chucker comments. Trey has shot the ball 14.3 and 15.8 times per 36 minutes in each of his first two seasons at a tremendous average of a TS% of .463. He's also averaging 5.7 assists per 36.

Jack has never averaged more than 13.7 attempts per 36 in his entire career. His lowest TS% of his career is .492 and his lifetime is .542. He also averages nearly as many assists per 36 at 5.6. In other words, he's a much better player than Trey.

Now, I'm not basketball savvy enough to know if JJ is a good fit based on system but I think he may the right type of player at the right stage in his career for us.
 
I think what it comes down to is,

1. DL (and QS) are not willing to consider Trey Burke a sunk cost...not yet. They want him to at least have some value as an asset, and they're willing to let him try to improve that value as a starter.

2. Other teams are asking too much for the backup PG's they'd be willing to give up. They're playing a game of chicken with Utah because they think the Jazz are desperate.

3. Burks may be the "x" factor. Jazz only carried 2 PG's to start the season last year. Did they think Burks could be the 3rd if needed?

We could see a deal made before the season. But I think that depends on how other teams set up their rosters. Maybe Rozier and Hunter really impress for Boston and the Celtics decide to offload Bradley to give the youngsters playing time.

The Jazz had Toure Murray to start last year. He was the 3rd pg until he got cut.

Thought Toure was more of a combo guard than a true PG. I know Quin has talked about Gordon, Alec and even Hood all being play makers. Certainly Burks is not going to be a starting PG, but I wonder if Quin envisions having a Burks, Hood, Hayward lineup at times.

Perhaps the true reason we don't see a trade is that Quin's system needs "3&D" players. And that player at the 1 just isn't available via trade or available at a reasonable price.

IF they can defend. Neither Hood nor Burks are known as good defenders. Hayward is underrated, IMO. I think Gordon is a pretty good defender, and can be even better if Utah doesn't have to tire him out on offense. But yes, I agree with you; we don't need a ball-dominant PG. Just need a player who can defend the 1 and hit 3's.

I would say Lin really needs the ball in his hands to be effective though. His defense isn't great, but I could be wrong. I see him as more of a back up.

Aggressive, defensive minded, long, pass first PG. Spot up 3's and can develop his offense... WAIT THIS SOUNDS A LOT LIKE EXUM. WTF EXUM WHY MUST YOU TEAR KNEE/ACL
 
Anybody think Rubio could be a good pick up? Wouldn't cost too much, the only problem is he can't shoot... but he would definitely be our best point guard and he is talented.

Aggressive? Was the only Jazz game you watched his summer league game?

Season 1: Timid, rarely drives, can't wait to pass off on the perimeter, spots up and hits 35%. Yep, Exum is certainly the guaranteed answer. Jazz need to acquire a decent starting PG. When Dante comes back, make him EARN his minutes. If he doesn't significantly improve, keep him as a backup.
 
For me, Mike Conley would be my ideal choice. It took him awhile to get his game together but he gets it now and has proven it.

He would be amazing on our team, it's pretty much up to him were he plays next season though. Would he choose Utah or stay with Memphis?
