What's new

College Football *2015*

BYU had a 10 pt lead for most of the contest and should've gone up by 17 if Brown doesn't drop an easy swing pass.

I don't know what game you watched. Did you even watch it?

But BYU outplayed them in every facet of the game except for the score. It was a travesty that Byu even had to win on a hail Joseph Smith.
Yes. And they had two key defensive players go out and that's when Nebraska started to take it to them. BYU played the 2nd half missing their starting nose tackle (arguably their best defensive player), one of their inside linebackers and their strong safety. Devastating to lose the middle of your defense. And then their best player, Hill, is lost and a freshman QB takes over.

Whether others consider Nebraska a great team or not, the Cornhuskers had won 29 straight openers, dating back to the Tom Osborne era. They were 9-4 last season, certainly nothing to be ashamed about. If some are critical over BYU's ROAD win over Nebraska, maybe we should talk about Utah winning by just seven at HOME against a team that was just 5-7 last season.

I think BOTH wins were great. And I'm not a Ute fan. But I did want them to knock Harbaugh down a peg. So good for the Utes and good for the Cougars. They were both victorious over teams with a rich history of football success.

Dammit Thriller, I'm trying to get people to take my posts seriously. I can't do that if you start "liking" them, now can I?

Michigan hasn't been **** in years. Beating them isn't special anymore, even with Harbaugh. Nobody can turn an entire program around in the 1st season.

Saban turned a 7-6 Bama team into a 12-2 one. Michigan's basically been a .500 team the last few seasons and still gets recruits. No reason they couldn't be a 8-4 or better team this year with great coaching.

Well the game started out pretty good until the QB got hurt. That backup can barely throw the ball.

Ya, the bold predictions were looking good up to that point.

Ohio St looks scary good. So many weapons on offense.

Could TCU find themselves out of the playoffs again? Ohio St, Bama, PAC 12 champ, ACC champ?

Lol @ Miss St. Jumped by Utah in the polls. Maybe next time don't play a weak *** schedule. Ha ha. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll impress vs Troy, Northwestern wherever, La Tech and Kentucky.

Must be nice to have such a weak schedule where you have 5-7 wins before the season starts.

I wonder what Cry has to say about that. Oh, he ran off. Ne'ermind.

I very rarely meet Utah fans that are not obsessed with BYU like UGLI.

Actually, we are many. But the haters make all the noise. So the rest of us are judged on their actions.

That's fine, though. It allows the equivalent BYU fans (a small handful of the fan base) to spit their vitriol and grouse about how classless Ute fans are. I get a fair amount of amusement from it.

I just can't help but wonder if a large percentage of the vitriol that Utah fans show towards BYU is the result of their conscience weighing heavily on them? I'd like to know the percentage of anti-BYU/Utah fans who are inactive compared to the ones who are active.

I wonder that cheering against BYU has now become a past time of the inactive lashing out because the predominate religion here in Utah didn't support their lifestyle?

My brother went to the game in Nebraska and said that their fans were friendly, competitive, and overall just fun. Basically the opposite of the last 3-4 Holy War games played up at Rice. It felt like me wearing a blue shirt up there was somehow an attack on their life decisions. To borrow a popular phrase, "you don't know me!" Yet, most Utah fans tailgating and otherwise assumed that I was a bishop and was angry at them for drinking. As if I cared back then.

Only recently have I become curious as to the dynamics of this strange rivalry. Quite honestly, I've never seen anything like it. USC and UCLA don't have it. Cal and Stanford don't have it. Oregon and Oregon St don't have it. It's quite interesting to see the hatred that Utah fans have towards BYU. It's like it extends into politics, religion, and life.

The only other team that shows this amount vitriol might be San Diego St, and we all know their hostility towards Mormons.

So why do Utah fans despise BYU so much? Is it because of the church? I get that Collie and Hall didn't help things with their comments. And I get that urban, crowton, Whitt, and bronco aren't exactly buddies. But I don't recall this level of hostility under McBride and Edwards.

So why the sudden increase? Gay marriage? The booze laws that the church influences? Why? I wonder...
I don't know how old you are, but if you are around my age you lived through the most condescending holier than thou crap from BYU fans imaginable. I heard numerous BYU fans claim the teams success was confirmation of the church's truth. While all of that has subsided considerably, it did have a lasting effect.

All of that said, there is no way that one fan can speak for an entire fanbase, or be held accountable for their actions. All I can say is that personally my interest in BYU football has become very low since Utah moved into the PAC12. I'm sure that will change when we finally play each other again, but for now BYU is pretty irrelevant to my enjoyment of Utah football. It didn't used to be like that for me. I loved BYU losses almost as much as I loved Ute wins.

Seriously every article I read about byu I go to the comments section at the bottom and find ute fans making comments.

I saw a post on Facebook about how Utah was in the top 25 and I'm was going to post congrats and that they deserve it and as I'm reading the comments I see a comment from a ute fan saying how byu sucks and didn't deserve to beat Nebraska and they were lucky..... This comment in a story about utah being in the top 25 with no mention of byu anywhere.

Then you see jazz fanz posters that are ute fans that never even post on jazz fanz except to discuss byu in a negative way.

It really is strange
