The Purple and Blues Mailbag

I just wanted to announce that I too will be taking questions about the Jazz. I have the following qualifications:

1. I can write as well as Greg Foster.
2. I am better than Greg Foster at research, given the fact that I am a researcher.
3. I am also more of a lifelong fan, since my life-length measures a bit farther.

Just leave me your questions here, and I'll decide whether they warrant an answer (which they probably don't).
Are any of the Jazz players freelancing as sperm donors?

I'm not a professional writer and I am horrible at research. I have been a Jazz fan for a couple weeks though so I think I can handle this one.

Unfortunately, none of the Jazz players are freelancing as sperm donors. I recommend you go to Beto's order a glass of Horchata and use your imagination.

The only thing your post proves is that you are every bit as horrible at research as you claim.

That's a good start, but do you also have:

1. A direct pipeline to Jazz brass
2. Access to the Jazz players and coaches
3. Affiliation with the Jazz in some capacity

A lot of the questions that will probably be asked by us can only be answered if you have one of these three qualifications, right? Not trying to give you a hard time, I just would like to know what kind of questions we can ask you...like:

Why is Coach limiting Player X's minutes? Is he injured?
What has Player Y been specifically working on during the summer?
Why did we draft Player A when Player B was available and fit a more pressing need on the team?
What is Rudy Gobert's favorite restaurant in SLC?
Do Jazz players and Coaches read Jazzfanz?

You know...stuff like that.
Excellent post. If you are going to write a mailbag people will care about then you need to be able to answer questions like these. Greg, I hope you take this as a challenge and start building the necessary connections so that you have resources for the research that will be needed.

1) I'm a professional writer.
2) I'm really good at research.
2) I'm a lifelong Jazz fan of 30 years.

:)

Basically what the people here are trying to say is, unless you have main stream media credentials they won't be reading what you have to say. Because truth be told, they aren't sure what is or isn't a good opinion. They just follow the leader like sheep. This really is just a breeding ground for hate where they tear down each other day after day trying to stomp out any opinion that isn't theirs or someone mainstream.

So nice knowing you bruh. You ventured off into the wrong part of the internet. You should have said you write for Grantland or something , then they would be on your nuts. You'd have a thread every other day made in your honor praising how smart you are with Jazz takes.

What an independent thinker! Can you teach us?

You must have missed what I said (point proven). How would I teach you anything if you won't listen or aren't willing to bend your views from a non mainstream person?

The issue isn't that he is outside of the mainstream...

He's just some dude writing his opinion on the internet. No access to players or Jazz personnel. It would literally be just like the opinions I read everyday on this website.

I have observed that everyone that says "mainstream opinion" has very mainstream opinions. There seems to be 2 main streams in America and everyone has an inferiority complex. Whichever stream someone's canoe is drifting down is never the mainstream, it's always the other stream that is the main one. Realizing this I've tried to do my best to piss in both streams as much as possible. I figure if enough of us pee in the streams maybe everyone will GTFO.

Dude, I am 1) a professional writer, 2) a very good researcher, and 3) a lifelong Jazz fan, but what I don't have is special access or insight to the Jazz organization, so I do not present myself as someone who will provide professional insight on this topic. My professional writing is reserved for a completely different area where I do have insight that is not necessarily available to everyone.

It's laughable that when I ask what the OPs credentials are that people like you jump in and suggest that asking for information like that is somehow wrong.

Sounds like I pushed the right buttons/struck the right chord.

Why y'all so defensive?

And what's wrong with that? Wading through the garbage on this site (i.e. posts attacking others), we occasionally find some really good stuff, whether it's you, GVC, Dr. Jones, franklin, PG_AB or a few others - and sorry if I didn't call someone out specifically by name - posts that have some decent research or insight behind them. A lot of bloggers don't have inside access to anyone in the Jazz organization. But that doesn't mean they can't write great articles. Let's give the OP a chance. Maybe his research and writing style will result in some great articles. Or perhaps not. But I think anyone that wants to put themselves out there for public scrutiny has some really big (basket)balls.

negged for not calling me out by name

There is nothing WRONG with it. But if a stranger unpromptedly told you to send them your questions, it is fair for you to wonder why you should care about their answers. And I'm afraid "because I write on a blog" is not a good response. He should either have a press-like connection to the Jazz, or provide examples of his writing that show superior insight and analysis.

Also keep in mind that aside form Cunning Linguist's unnecessary tirade, we were all being playful. I actually looked at Greg Foster's blog. He's all right.
