What's new

jazz is at -4.5, blazers at +4.5 in Bovada

One of the biggest disappointments for me thus far is how poorly Favors is guarding the perimeter. This was the first offseason of his career that he knew he was prepping for full-time duty at the PF, and he certainly knew that came with perimeter defensive responsibilities. He looks slow getting out there. I'm questioning his recognition.

I really thought that Exum had more to do with our defense last year than anyone not named Gobert. I was hoping I was wrong.

Teams look scared when Hayward drives. He'll get those calls now just because of that.
I also think that when a player signs a max deal, the league notices.
Plus he has been getting lots of respect nationally and doing the olympics thing.

Our current PGs bring almost no offense to the table. We're going 4 on 5 effectively at that end. Our guys are too small to get a good shot off, and they don't shoot well enough to hit when they get one.

Favors needs to hit his 17-foot jumper to create any space whatsoever for the frontcourt on offense. Rudy's not getting any looks at all right now.

It leaves us with an awkward offense where we rely on Hood and Hayward to shoot from mid-range. Not the most efficient approach.

Honestly, our spacing and scoring would be better if we still had Mo Williams....essentially where we were before we drafted Burke.

Sounds like the Jazz will miss Kanter's offense.

I know this has been discussed in length but what I've been seeing, I think that Hood should be the starter. I'm one of the biggest Burks fan but he just isn't as good of an off-ball player as Hood. For example, there were many instances in the 1st quarter where Hayward (or someone) would create an open 3 look for Burks that he would either miss or pass up to drive into a crowded lane with Favors and Gobert. Hood is (probably?) a more reliable spot-up 3 point threat. Burks has tremendous playmaking and scoring ability that would be great with the second unit with a little more spacing.

I'm hoping this is just shaking off the rust. I'm at the game and it's pretty terrible, we are really poor on the offensive end.

I don't really want to live with Kanter shooting 20-footers either. Plus, he's a problem on defense. Kanter won't help.

What we need is a PG who can shoot, and for Favors to play better.

Half our offensive sets should be focused on getting Gobert the ball within 5 feet of the rim. For whatever reason, we're not doing that.
