What's new

jazz is at -4.5, blazers at +4.5 in Bovada

This loss isn't rocket science. The Jazz will lose every game this season when G time, Favors and Rudy play like they did tonight. No need to read more into it than that.

Exploiting small lineups inside isn't very effective when your team can't shoot. Whenever anybody gets the ball in the paint they get swarmed by help defenders.

Well it helps for a team who can't to have wide open 3's instead of partially contested 3's, no?

Not sure how drawing double teams is ever bad for an offense, but ok.

He took 2 in the first quarter then gave up. That's how the Jazz offense gets clogged because defenders know we have some wings whose scouting reports probably read "dude doesnt want to shoot 3's, wants to pump fake and drive".
Has more to do with making than taking. They weren't respecting Hood or Hayward either when defending them with Leonard. Heaven knows those guys will take them. In fact Burks was the only one who made them pay when guarded by Leonard with a long jumper from top of the key

Trey Burke with only 19 mins, 7 in the second half. He didn't play in the 4th quarter at all. Maybe it's just a rest thing, or trying the triple wing, but it doesn't bode well for a guy who's got a lot to prove. He would have matched up against McCollum, one of the guys we passed on to draft Trey.

... My whole point is that we don't have the shooters to make teams pay for defending us that way. Certainly not enough to make them pay for going small offensively. I'm not quite sure how this is going over your head.

Uhhh, both Ingles and Hood hit 3's with Leonard on them.

I think you are wrong.

Rebounding and interior scoring will dominate true small lineups. Portland has a lot of big bodies who can challenge at the rim.

I'm not convinced involving Rudy in these high pick and rolls is a good idea. I would like to see a stat showing what our team TS% is on plays involving him.

It's pre-season, it has more to do with taking. I assure you Snyder wants Burks taking more 3's.

There was literally a play where Leonard was guarding Burks and Burks was as the 3pt line. Burks takes 1 dribble in to shoot a 22' foot 2 point shot. Granted he made it, but why not just take the 3?

Not to mention free throws, which has got to be a huge concern for this team. I mean if we give up 13 free points then we really can't afford to be off our game anywhere else.

Okay, but again, they were sagging off knowing chances were very much in their favor that Hood and Hayward - and Burks - weren't going to knock them down. The point is, they weren't discriminating against Burks in that respect.

I agree with you, he should have taken the three, but the fact is they were sagging off everybody in that situation other than maybe Ingles.

The point is our wings have to be ready to shoot and to shoot it with confidence. Just because you miss a couple early doesn't mean to stop taking them.

Bobby Portis with 20 pts. and 11 rebs. Shot 8/12. In all fairness he got a lot of that against Ryan Andersen, but still...
