What's new

It's hard to judge Dennis Lindsey

I mean Amir Johnson got 12 million a year for 2 years and is he really that much better than Booker? I mean, he is taller and can do a little more on the defensive end, but he is a worse per minute rebounder. He isn't that big of an upgrade if any at all.

Looking through the FA signs I'm struggling to find a clear upgrade at PF, either stylistically or total ability level, at a reasonable price over Booker.

Jonas Jerebko would have been an interesting replacement for Booker at 5 million a year for 2 years. He is really the only PF FA signing I would possibly prefer over Booker. I do think the intagibles Booker brings to the team are real though.

He is an average player. I think the Jazz could have found better players than him and Ingles as free agents.

In my opinion Lindsey should be more active in free agency.

Ingles shot 40% from three from January-April. He's solid.

Darrell Arthur, Teletovic, Seraphin and Bargnani. They will all make less money than Booker, except Teletovic ($5.5 million).

Arthur, the dude who has shot 40% from the field the last 2 years? I remember him having a couple of good years with Memphis a few years back. I'll pass.

Teletovic? That would be interesting. He is older though and his shooting has fluctuated each year.

Seraphin? No, he is much more of a center, no PF game IIRC.

Bargnani? No thanks. Extremely wild fluctuations in his shooting, questionable motivation.

Yeah, but he isn't a gunner. He passes up plenty of looks because he can't shoot them fast enough. He is a guy who should be a 5th wing, but is a 4th on our team. It feels like we need someone who can really light it up and get hot in short stretches, not a solid decision maker who will make the extra pass to a guy who will just pump fake and drive into a clogged defense.

Check Ed Davis last year. I haven't scoured the numbers, but I know he was a lot cheaper and pretty sure he had better numbers both the year leading up the FA and last year after signing.

So would you offer him a new contract next season?

Anyway, it would have been interesting to see the Bargnani/Gobert pairing.

Depends on what's available on the market and how far Lyles comes along.

I can nearly guarantee we are never going to sign Bargani. That would be the worst person to get. Dude is ***.

Yeah, but he is another guy who is more of a center than a PF. He is basically going to give you (a poor version) of what Gobert/Favors give you. I mean, he is good, but I think you want a change of pace/compliment to your starters for your 3rd big, not another non-versatile piece.

He is a lazy player no doubt. But he signed to vets minimum contract with the Nets and he could be a bargain coming off the bench. His offense is underrated.

Booker is appropriately priced and the suggested players in his place are debatably equal or less. And so if you replace Booker for them it is simply trading to trade pieces. This activity creates variables that are not worth the risk. Booker is good in locker room (by all accounts) and is a good energy guy that helps the team, and the fans like him. Also, the Jazz are not in a spot (yet) where they are trying to 'just that last one piece' and so this year was a good year to leave the team in tact and then we'll see what moves to make as this year rolls on or concludes.

He brings energy, what else?

Toughness, attitude, hustle, positive energy (watch him on the bench...he actually cares how his teammates are doing out there) and just about every damn intangible thing the Jazz desperately need.

If you don't value intangibles, fair enough. I do, and it's possible I overvalue them. All I know is that the Wet Willy crap on Hayward would have resulted in Delonte West getting his *** kicked by Booker at some point, and I want a player like that on the Jazz. While Gobert has some of that in him, I'd rather see a guy like Booker get tossed from the game and serve a suspension than Gobert.

Booker became a fan favourite especially after his phrase related to Kanter. A player has to be judged for his performances on the court.

It's not like he's completely useless out on the court, like that one Brazilian guy from BYU whose name I can't think of. He got 37 points in a game once, and has a per of 15.1, which is fine for a big off the bench getting 20 minutes a game (it's pretty much the league average).

And since when does the 3rd big need to be some sort of great player anyway? The Lakers won Championships with f'ing Kurt Rambis getting as many minutes as Booker does.

I definitely think it's fair to say that we will eventually need to upgrade from Booker, hopefully that is what Lyles can be.

I think that's one of the reasons we didn't look to add someone who would be considered an upgrade.

Booker is the perfect bench guy imo he knows his role and doesn't ever lose the game for you, but some nights his energy, toughness, or shooting can win you a game. Great locker room guy and he is a good person as well. If lyles isn't ready next year I'd love to have Book back.

We should have signed Jeremy Lin. Dude was dirt cheap and he is still young and can score and shoot above average.

Potential is such a dangerous word. Lyles has tons of potential.
