The 1st controversy this season.. Neto/Hood starting over Burke/Burks

Yeah, do you mean Neto being better than Burke or Exum?

I don't think he's necessarily better than either player, but so far he brings what Exum did to the 1st unit. As for minutes, I think you're right. Keep in mind, even though Burke can't guard his shadow he was still a net positive player with the starters last season, so that might not matter.

Burke has been a much more improved defender this preseason. I think the problem I have on this board is that people here hold on to ideals that may no longer be the case anymore. Anytime a player can do a decent job defending Westbrook that person has defensive skills. Burke clearly rededicated himself to playing solid perimeter defense in the off season.

He did ok and did put in the effort, I think, but doesn't mean he's better than Neto defensively -- though Neto did get schooled by Westbrook, but then who doesn't.

I actually think Neto is better defensively with positioning and with his hands, but the difference is that Exum has that length which trumps that.

I agree. Neto IMO just based on raw skilkset will be a better steals guy. However staying in front of the ball handler is the "meat and potatoes" of defense. I'm not sold he can do that against starter caliber players yet. This question will be better answered as the season goes along.

Again I agree. Neto has some thing about his game I really like. I just haven't seen him do it against starter level player. I question if that up in your face aggressive style can be sustained playing starters logging starter mins.

I like Neto starting over TB, but there is an issue of him being a rookie. Gonna be interesting and gutsy if Quin starts a rookie PG over his 3rd year PG.

the title of the first post. Pretty clear he was conjecturing and not stating a fact.

I disagree. There is no indication to tell one way or the other. As a result it is easily assumed to be a statement of "fact".

You're right about that. I remember one time when he got up in Westbrook's face, RW did a crossover and blew by him for an unmolested layup.

The triple question marks seem like an indication that he was not stating what he believed to be a fact -- but let's just agree to disagree.

I don't see any ?s on the thread title. Maybe that is the difference. I wonder why that is...

Here is what I see: " The 1st controversy this season.. Neto/Hood starting over Burke/Burks"

I don't view Hood starting as a controversy and Burke was intended to be the backup anyways.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Alec, but he is a straight up scorer where as Hood to me is a more all around player. As much as I like Alec, Hood to me gets the nod every time.

But how good will the defense be for the second unit with Burks and Burke?

No one that we have replaces Exum's length and defensive play at the point. So there will be a drop off in perimeter defense with his absence no matter who they throw out there unless Burks shows that he can guard point guards.

Mitigating that loss is the acquisition of two 7-footers to platoon with Gobert, which is something our team did not have last year. So even if there is a drop off on the perimeter, there will always be length and shot-blocking at the 5, even if they go small with Favors.

So even if our starters are not as good on D, our second unit may be improved. It is still possible that we have the personnel to be a top-5 defense this year.

SALT LAKE CITY — Less than 24 hours before his team tips it off in its 2015-16 NBA regular-season opener, Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder said he still wasn't quite ready to announce his starting lineup.

"No, not yet, for all the same reasons we've kind of discussed," Snyder said Tuesday afternoon following his team's practice session at Zions Bank Basketball Center in preparation for tonight's season debut on the road against the Detroit Pistons. "We've got a chance to look at different groups and different combinations the last few days, which has been good. I think we'll obviously make that decision between now and game time, probably sooner than later.

Interesting points, but I have a couple of burning questions for you. Did you eat Al Gore's unborn grandchildren? Are you still hungry? Are there any other politicians or future potential politicians who you'd be willing to eat?

Eating a politician is rare because those folks don't mix with commoners such as myself. Eating their children is even more difficult, and getting access to the unborn is a feat (or treat) that even the most adroit cannibal must work very hard to achieve.

That being said, yes I would be willing. You hook 'em, I'll cook 'em.
