Opening Night Grades

Neto (B): Solid D and made a couple nice offensive plays. Hit our only two 3's.
Hood (C-): Not a great shooting night and did some other things well on the court, but we REALLY needed something from deep from Rodney tonight
Hayward (C): Sub-par night for Hayward. Looked to be getting a bit frustrated. START HITTING FREE THROWS
Favors (A): Fantastic game from Favors. Played solid D, got rebounds he was supposed to (Gobert took the easy ones), and had a varied and successful scoring night
Gobert (B-): Played an alright game. Protected the rim well and gobbled up the rebounds he was supposed to get. Wish he would've made more of a play on that Jackson drive though
Burke (F): Absolutely nothing offensively and let Steve Blake drive at will leading to easy points
Burks (B): Was really active and I thought was the catalyst to us starting to comeback in the 4th. Made FT's. Aggressive
Ingles (C): Not much from Slo-Mo tonight, that layup where he lulled everyone to sleep was nice
Millsap (C-): Sap really didn't do anything at all out there tonight
Lyles (D): Trey certainly looked like a rookie out there and just couldn't get anything going on either end.

I'm going to give myself a solid D.

I was able to correctly predict the Jazz would lose, but I had the margin wrong, then caved to peer pressure and predicted a win. I also predicted Trey Burke would lead the Jazz in scoring, oops.

My early contributions to the game thread made it a miscellaneous hodge-podge, and I wasn't a very good teammate because I mad eGameface mad at me, and failed to notice FishonJazz's announcement about becoming a first time father.

Late in the gamethread I got kind of snippy because I had a rotten day at work. I even wondered out loud where Thriller was.

Still it was only one gamethread, it is a long season and I have about 40 hours to pull it together before the match-up with Philly. Hopefully I can bounce back.

Trey Lyles had a nice drive and dish to Favors and made a few good passes. I'd give him a C+.

Can't argue otherwise.

The Jazz don't have a go-to scorer on the team. It continues to be a problem. I think Rodney and Alec are going to have a greenlight all season.

I would give Neto a C. I mean, he wasn't Trey Burek and hit 2 deep ones. That is about all he did. It's not like he played great defense. His drives put 0 pressure on the defense as he seems to have no ability to finish either at the rim or with runners.

Also probably give Hood a C+. He really kept Utah in the game in that 2nd quarter with his playmaking. The only thing he did really bad was not hitting his 3's and foul trouble.

Don't forget Neto's super ****ing weak PNR defense on a huge 3 by Reggie Jackson late in teh 4th quarter that put the Pistons up 6. I'm pretty sure that is when Neto got benched.

I do not think the pick got called out for him.

Hayward. D was passive and waited for him to demand the ball and take over

Gobert. C. Was great first half got abused in the second half.

Hood. C-

Burks. B- love his confidence. He should've been more aggressive on his last play to get to the line

Neto. C+. He has a future in the NBA showed promise. Defense wasn't great and missed too many shots inside needs to finish plays off

Ingles C. Made a couple nice plays. That's it.

Favors solid B. Great for three quarters. Slowed in the fourth

Burk. Z. Waste of space. Badly outplayed by Neto.

That's all I care to grade.

Neto B
Hood B-
Hayward C+
Burks B+
Favors A
Gobert B
Burke D

Overall B. Solid game. Room for improvement. But not overly concerned or disappointed.

Nailed it

Don't think I'd give Burks a B. Probably C.

Nah, he deserves a B just for getting us back into the game. Just like I think Hayward deserves a better rating for hitting what would have been the game winning basket if we played defense. It's just sad how fragmented our offense is.

Don't get the terrible ratings for Hood. He got a ton of assists, and played with energy on both ends. His outside shot just wasn't falling.

This post is spot on.

Yeah, it sucks he couldn't hit the shots, but he basically did what Burks did in the 4th in the 2nd quarter. We just need to get all these guys going at once by hitting outside shots instead of everyone just taking their turns at being decent in isolation.

This I agree with Hood played well.... Would've played great if he had hit 2+ 3's
