SUCCES! the left winning at banning guns!!!!!!!!!

People who want to protect their families should not stop at simply getting guns.
Put bars on your doors and windows too.... That is if you are really serious about protecting the family.

That's a very valid point. I get a chuckle out of the modern day "Constitutionalist" who thinks guns are all that matters. If you want to protect against tyranny then why are you hoarding guns n ammo instead of becoming a super genius hacker?

I think most gun owners are a little more practical than what you are suggesting, however. Double however, there is a kick *** market waiting to be exploited by an inventive entrepreneur advertising to the family security crowd by offering titanium reinforced vinyl insert appearing windows that cannot be breached by a crow bar. You get the same look as the currently easy to smash and enter windows but the security of titanium bars. Guarantee that **** will sell like hot cakes on the Glenn Beck Show.

...My eacalade was locked and my other was open.
In four days and nights my eacalade was looked into and 7 times, the door tried 3 times.
In four days my excursion (which is badass) was not even approached, no one tried to look into the truck, no tries at the door.

Pick it apart, but that small trial told me that Villians look for easy, non-combative, targets.
Do I think that my jacked up truck with NRA stickers and "molon Labe" was a deterrent? U betcha.

so plastering ourselves with threatening-looking NRA stickers should work just fine, eh?

The other thing which is interesting for me - numerous European countries have strict regulations when it comes to real guns but for personal protection you can easily get gas handguns which IMHO is plenty to scare somebody off - (you can't tell by looking at it if it is real or not ) or disable it without killing. And yeah Mellow - you can defend yourself with it against coyote or rattlesnake. Why do you guys need a fatal weapon really? Replace all your real weapons with gas guns, leave real things for police and I bet your gun related crime numbers and accidental children injuries and deaths will go down severely.

One inspiring example comes from Cali, Colombia, and highlights the value of using data to identify risk factors for homicide. In the early 1990s, the mayor of Cali decided to use data to improve health outcomes in his city. A physician and epidemiologist by training, Dr. Rodrigo Guerrero Velasco set up a firearm death tracking system to identify different risk factors driving these trends. Guerrero Velasco and his colleagues found that more than half of Cali’s homicide victims were intoxicated. Also, analysis of the data revealed that homicides were more likely to involve young people and occur on holiday weekends, weekends following paydays, and election days.

Based on these findings, Guerrero Velasco implemented several interventions to address these risk factors, such as limiting the hours alcohol could be sold, imposing curfews for individuals under 18 on the weekends, and imposing short-term gun bans on select weekends and election days when homicides were most likely to occur. According to an academic study based on an analysis of the city’s gun death database, homicides declined from a high of 124 per 100,000 in 1994 to 86 per 100,000 in 1997. Another study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and co-authored by University of Washington epidemiologists found that homicide death rates were 14 percent lower than expected during periods when gun bans were imposed in Cali.

Homicide rates in Cali, Colombia, 1983-1998

HomicidesCaliNote: Figure taken from paper entitled “La epidemiología de los homicidios en Cali, 1993-1998: seis años de un modelo poblacional” published in the Pan American Journal of Public Health

In 2011, Guerrero Velasco was re-elected to a second term as mayor of Cali. In a Sept. 15, 2015, article for Scientific American, Guerrero Velasco wrote that renewed efforts stemmed gun violence. “Cali’s homicide rate of 83 in 2012 dropped to 62 in 2014. This pattern has continued; the number of homicides in the first trimester of 2015 is less than in the same period in any of the past 12 years.”

Instead of using local data to identify local solutions, the U.S. may largely have to rely on studies done in other countries to gain insight into ways to curb gun violence. Even though Obama lifted a 17-year-old ban on U.S. federal funding for gun violence research in 2013, a congressional ban on funding for this research remains in place, with Congress renewing the ban after nine people were killed in a Charleston, S.C., church.

As a society, we must take serious actions now to curb the threat of firearm-related deaths. Let’s look to other countries for inspiration for what works.

Laws seem to stop criminals in all other countries well enough. I don't get it why you americans argue with stats and do not want to agree that you have a problem with guns.

How so? How having a real gun vs gas gun makes any difference if criminal shows up with the real gun? He can still kill you in both scenarios and your chances of surviving are not any better.

we "gunnuts" dont have to explain anything to you.

Sure you can keep your guns. Why would I even care lol, it is not my country which is on top in gun related crimes, deaths and accidents.

I think most DO AGREE that there is a problem with guns, it's when discussing the possible causes and solutions to the problem that the major disagreements appear.

One of my biggest annoyances are those who say "that will only have a minor effect..." implying "so why bother..." as a response to a proposal to reduce the number of guns in our society or the amount of violence involving guns

as if to say that since nothing will completely eliminate the problem, we shouldn't do anything

What possible ways do you favor reducing guns?

I say:

Voluntary buy back programs
Destroying guns used in crimes
Linking mental health records to back ground checks
Securing the border and what goes across both ways. No more Fast and Furious (disgusting!)
