What's new

Memphis Grizzlies @ Utah Jazz Sat. Nov. 7th @ 7pm MST

Burke with another good game. This is huge for the Jazz as it dramatically improves bench scoring and is starttop limit/erasse those scoring droughts in the 2nd Q when the Jazz usually fall behind.

Point Differential early on

Warriors +18.3
Cavs +10.2
Spurs +9.3
Jazz +8.3
Raptors +7.8
Hawks +5.6
Blazers +4.8
Clippers +4.3

Too bad we let Memphis back in it last night. Otherwise, our differential would have been even higher. But there's nothing you can do--that's basketball. Still a great stat.

As long as we get the W's my man, as long as we get the W's...

The biggest thing for me in last nights game was that our O showed signs of life. 30 in the 2nd and 26 in the 3rd. I saw some plays that i had not seen before.

For ex:

Gobert drove in pulled two defenders to him (his and Neto's) then dished out to a baseline driving Neto for a layup.

Burke driving in after scoring a lot and as a result the defenders collapse on him. He throws up a floater alley oop to Gobert for the slam.

That and the Jazz were actually taking open 3s and making them.12-27 from 3 for 44.4%

If the Jazz O gets started then this team will be extremely hard to play against with sucha killer D. Only allowing 85 ppg. That is 7.2 ppg better than the #2 team. That team happens to be the Cavs who we play next in a road game. For that stat geeks that 7.2 ppg between #1 and #2 is more than the difference between #2 and #12 by .2 ppg

That slam by Gobert, and the next by Favors, were so satisfying after not being able to make a basket for like 5 minutes.

Anyone needling Quinn's offense should really take a closer look at these highlights, there's clearly been adjustments made... If he's going to keep this going, you'd have to say Quinn is putting him in the best positions to succeed..

Great find from Trevor Booker at 1:11 too.

I really like the play at 1:30

Now if Gobert can just start finishing consistently and hit his FT's.

There's still a ton of room for improvement from everyone on the team. It's nice to see that we're off to a good start this year despite the fact that I don't think anyone is totally up to speed yet. Hood still hasn't found his shot, Hayward is shaking the rust off (but it's not totally gone), Favors has been sick, Burks is only finally beginning to take open 3s, Gobert isn't shooting FTs as well as he did last year... so many places we can expect to see improvement.

...well that Jazz vs. Hawks game coming up next week should be a good one! Don't get me wrong, I still have some feelings for the Jazz from the Stockton/Malone days, but the Hawks are my team especially now that the type of basketball they play is ACTUALLY....well, real basketball! I will give you a first hand assessment of the new look Jazz, since I will get the game on local t.v. down here in South Carolina!

What's their fan forum like? You should probably focus on that.

How did their real basketball hold up against the Cavs in the playoffs last year?

Was late watching the game (was watching the U game) to me the kind of a telling point or a microcosm of how the Grizz got back into the game was Barnes, on one possession for the Jazz he had 2 or 3 fouls just holding scrapping before Gobert got called for the illegal screen and from there the Grizz as a team played that way and the refs let them play and the Jazz weren't ready after getting the a big lead and from their the Gizz just mucked up the game with their physicality. Like coach Sloan used to say if you play physical the refs can't or wont call them all.

Good to see New Orleans getting spanked again.
I'm going to butcher this statistic but I heard on a podcast with Seth Partnow and Nate Duncan that the Pels would have to start winning at a 55 win season type clip in order to make the playoffs.

That would be very optimistic for that team even when completely healthy.

The good news for them is that their schedule is extremely front loaded.

After passing out to Burke, Ingles starts jogging back on D while the ball is in the air, and Burks goes with him. Now that's confidence.
Had to go back and check it out based on your comment. Awesome! Burke was definitely feeling it last night, and his teammates knew they could count on him. Here's hoping Trey has many more nights like that.
