f you missed it, the New York Times Magazine recently posed the question, "If given the chance would you kill baby Hitler?"

It's not a new question, but it's as intriguing as ever, and set social media ablaze for a few days with a wide variety of memes and wisecracks.

would you? no not talking about abortion. straight up break into his room lean over his crib, take a pillow and say "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh its okay u die now" and smotter him with the pillow
 
No. We know the world came out fine at the end. Europe ended its thousands of years of war and became a peaceful and conscientious society. The Cold War did not end up in global nuclear annihilation. A lot of negatives happened as well, but it boils down to a world of 7 billion people, where most are living better lives than earlier in history.

By killing Hitler, you would be changing the lives of practically everyone on Earth. Many will not exist. So you'd be killing billions of people. Additionally, there is no way to know how things will turn out. Killing Hitler will change history is ways that are impossible to predict.

Finally, who the **** do you think you are making these decisions for everyone else? There is a reason we created the Temporal Enforcement Agency. We will not stand by while you wreck the timeline!

Obviously, a diagnosis of sociopathy is not socially acceptable. We gotta have a law to protect the rest of us somehow. Social Justice demands we do something to make everything "right" for everyone, and some personality disorders are just not compatible with governmental actions designing to make everyone do right.

If we begin killing all babies with some genetic condition pre-disposing towards sociopathic tendencies, we would likely be killing not just the Hitlers, the Lenins, Stalins, Pol Pots, Maos. . . and such. We would also be killing the Hillaries, the Bush clan, the Rockefellers, the Buffets, the Obamas, the Nixons, and the Colonel Sanders. In fact we would not be able to staff our alphabet government bureaucracies, or the think-tank intellectuals with vast ideas about governing the world.

And what would we do without the Siros and the babes?

nah, all we gotta do is really put some limits on the power government can have. That woulda fixed all those historical tragedies.

and, clearly, we gotta put some limits on the wine-brewers/party timers to stop them from killing the DutchJazzers. That's called laws which protect our rights to life, liberty, and such. That's why "no government" is not the answer, either.
 
Ok so you kill baby Hitler but leave baby Stalin? Very likely all Europe after that would turn into one big red USSR dictatorship.
I love this novel by Bradbury ( there is movie as well). It has nice theory how small alterations in the past can affect the future.

This is a silly question, in my mind it is on the same level as "have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

The one asking the question can scandalize either response.

i dont think he is joking, they are fascist and they do not accept different viewpoints. they would rather silence and sencor the opposing viewpoint, and when they come up against someone like me who refuses to go silent. they wanna physically harm or murder me
