I would use a different word then interesting........ Scary might be the word I would choose

On another note, the Runnin' Utes, I was pleasantly surprised by how they played against San Diego St, I liked the getting the ball up the court quicker and quicker ball movement that I've seen so far. A little worried about the depth at center but I was also surprised that #15 Lorenzo Bonam, only one game though but overall I'm liking what I'm seeing this early in the season.

We got Bonam for Jeremy Olsen's roster spot, think that was a good trade off.

The bashing of Travis Wilson begins now..........go

Well, 13/26 for 110. He ran the ball well but so did Joe. Also, the fumble on the potential GW drive from a SENIOR starter. I'd say it's deserved.

I didn't see the game, just the box so maybe the fumble wasn't his fault?

Fact is, you WILL not win the PAC south(or any other conference) with QB play at that level. No matter who your team is.

It was both of their faults, on top of the coaching staff. I don't know if I've ever watched a more predictable offense.

Sucks for Utah. I gave Utah crap, but it would have been cool to see y'all with the Pac-12.

Talking crap is the fun part about sports since it's all out of our control. I think you can understand the pain with Miss St being ranked no. 1 for a few weeks before falling apart....I wish we never would've been ranked #4, didn't ever think we were the 4th best team in the country but it made you hope that we might be which makes these last few weeks that much harder lol

Yes, I definitely know the disappointment. Hopefully Utah doesn't **** their pants in the bowl game they do get like we did vs. Georgia Tech.

I would agree too predictable again the coaching staff really must think their offensive players suck (overstating it obviously out of disappointment) .

Really the D played well enough to win however they did drop 2 INT's one would've saved 3pts and the other would've been easily taken back to the house, on weeks they win they make those plays and when they don't, well we've all seen it many many times before.

I have been calling for play action passes early in the season but the few they've called in previous games it was so clear for whatever reason the D never respected that the ball was ever going to be handed off I chalked it up to I guess they just can't run it or don't have the personnel. Now on the two times they ran it on that last drive the coaching staff was stupid, because for the reasons I said previously and even if that wasn't the case UCLA didn't have to honor and would rather the U did run, heck with 2 timeouts I wish they would've rather then play action pass. Even if they didn't fumble the ball it was just bad play calling to think a play action pass would help in any way what so ever.

Also as anemic as the U's offense is and was, those 2 holding calls on the same drive in the 2nd Qtr felt like it all but did in the U's offense, the first one took a TD away from Scott and the 2nd insured the U would be held to a FG. I would actually say the U's offense did well to overcome those and manage to get a FG. That drive kinda showed all the "tricks" or different options the U's limited offense has and from then UCLA's D adjusted and it became even harder for the offense to do anything, like usual I feel the offensive coaches and players are playing not to screw up and are playing and play calling scared and it just rubs off on the players. The U's offense just needs to be more creative in the way they run and in the short pass (since the long ball threat is not realistic).

I also thought that PI call on #31 (4th string safety) was weak even if his head wasn't turned around (which it was) that isn't called but he had his head turned the whole time tracking the ball same as the WR and that lead/help UCLA get 7pts.

Yes now I'm bitching for the sake of bitching but again dropped balls in the 4th really hurt, Handley's I thought should've been reviewed at the very least since any and every time there was something remotely unsure in favor of UCLA was reviewed, which none were overturned it really just hurt the U's offensive momentum and them trying to run a hurry up offense. I'm not saying AT ALL that these cost the U the game they U lost this all on their own I was just venting and saying the U's offense is so poor that they can't get out of their own way let a lone the things I mentioned with the refs.

Although maybe I should (but wont) give the U offense a little slack since Joe Williams is the 3rd string (Troy McCormick would've been the 2nd string had he not been hurt in Spring ball) Joe looks good and just needs to get a bit stronger. Covey (sad sign that a Freshman is your leading WR) got hurt in the 1st Qtr of the game and that Tim Patrick their would be #2 WR has been out all year, of course Handley's had several games so he has no excuse even if he was the 3rd string TE. The starting center playing with a broken hand and so snapping the ball with his left hand. Not to mention on the defensive side of the ball, however all these things are just what poor teams use as excuses, they were in the game had their chances to make plays but failed to when they needed to plain and simple.

USC craps the bed more in one season than a 600 lb, bed ridden, incontinent grown man does in the same timeframe and is still playing for the Pac 12 South title next weekend? Thank you, Utah!

Think the Arizona game carried over to this game, Williams did a decent job but he is no Booker.

The division was still there we just needed to win this game. Couldn't get it done. Fumbling the ball, dropping potential INT's(could have been a pick 6 game changer)

This reminded me too much of the 4th quarter/OT's of the arizona game where we just couldn't make the play.

Utah beating Colorado isn't a guarantee at this point. They played UCLA and USC closer than we did.
I'm gonna go ahead and guarantee it

I'm starting to get this sick feeling that Whitt will always be the coach that can get you to 8-4 or 9-3 but that's it. Bottom line: You don't win the PAC 12 unless you can recruit and develop top flight QB talent.

Has Whit and his staff ever actually developed a QB? Brian Johnson led us to an undefeated year in his senior season but many will be quick to forget that most everybody was calling for his head most of his career.

Many will point to our success on D and our multiple defenders being drafted during Whit's tenure but I would submit that hiring a coaching staff that can run an above average D as well as being able to identify and develop QB talent are not mutually exclusive.

For as long as Whit's here, we're going to be the exact same thing: A very good team with a very conservative offense that beats teams early in the season playing tough defense and not making mistakes. Each year we'll fade a little bit as injuries mount up, thinning out the playmakers, making our formula less effective.

Don't get me wrong, 8, 9, and 10 wins are nice. It's just a bit depressing realizing that under the current reality, we've peaked.
