It also helps having an ambiguous rule regarding receptions in the end zone.

Yes, I'm a Giants fan and yes it's sour grapes, but how come runners can wave the ball across the goal line and it's a touchdown while others catch the ball, bring down two feet and it's not?

If that counts as a catch, then the game has gone to pure ****. Excellent defense.

I'm with ya on that one! That was a catch....and waving the football over the piling should NOT be a touchdown! Ridiculous! Well, I'm a Falcon fan and unless we come out of this bye week and win the next two games we play, both at home.....we may NOT win another game all season! But interestingly, even if we LOSE next week, we will still hold on to the last playoff spot with a 6-4 record, no matter what the other teams do!

Ugh, Broncos looked like crap.

Manning now has ribcage and foot injuries. He may be done for the season and career. At this point I say turn it over to Osweiler for the remainder of the season. See what you have in him to determine if you go for a QB this offseason.

But it isn't just an "end zone rule".

"The league’s position, per a source with knowledge of it, is that the call was absolutely right. A catch is complete once the receiver gets two feet down and maintains control long enough to become a runner. There’s a time element, and Beckham failed to meet it because the ball was knocked from his possession as soon as his second foot came down.

When the ball is knocked loose at the same time as the second foot hits, the pass is incomplete. Period. If he has it long enough to get a third foot down or to turn or to brace for contact or to spike the football or to hand it to the official, the pass is complete.

The requirement applies wherever a catch occurs, in the end zone or in the field of play. And while the ruling on the field complicates the situation, the decision that indisputable visual evidence existed to overturn the ruling was the correct one. The defensive back knocked the ball out of Beckham’s possession before he held it long enough, and the easy solution is that he should have held it a little bit longer."

Key line: When the ball is knocked loose at the same time as the second foot hits, the pass is incomplete. Period.

I think that applies anywhere, not just the end zone.....

On top of which, several commentators said he was starting to celebrate to Butler, instead of hugging that ball....

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying the call was wrong. Following the letter of the rule it was an incomplete pass. What I'm saying is there is a HUGE inconsistency in the rules for running the ball into the end zone as opposed to catching the ball in the end zone.

That's incorrect. He had two feet down before the ball got knocked out. The part of the rule where ODB failed is the "becomes a runner" portion which makes no sense for an end zone completion and appears absurd when juxtaposed against the rules for the running the ball into the end zone.

Good timing actually though. Get Ossy some games in before the playoffs. You guys just need solid QB, anything else is bonus. Teams can still sign players too right? So we shouldn't be shocked when Tebow runs out the tunnel in a Broncos uni again in a few weeks.

...which is why I'm having a hard time pulling for/rooting for Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers! This kid celebrates EVERY play! And I mean EVERY SINGLE PLAY....like he just won the Super Bowl or something! Gains 1 yard? Celebrate! Gain 2 yards? Celebrate! Makes a 1st down or scores a touchdown? A "choreographed" Cecil B. Demille's production will follow! I'd like to pull for them if my Falcons get knocked off....but his ego maniac, "all about me" attitude is a big turnoff which will not allow me to do it!

They call touchdowns when a guy runs the ball....and get's within an "area code" of the endzone, but the receiver has to have complete possession, comedown with 2 feet and then hold on for more than 2 seconds or until he turns to hand the ball to the ref??? PLEASE! Change the rule...and change it NOW!

Haha.. I enjoyed this post.

Vikings vs Packers is the game of the day!! Can't wait. Most books have it lined as a pick'em or Vikes by 1.

What do y'all make of the Packers 3 game losing streak after starting 6-0?

How about the Vikings 5 game winning streak?

Revis Island might be a thing of the past.. Deandre Hopkins left him in the dust today, more than once. Sammy Watkins got him good last week.

I bet on the packers. (It was a pick em)

Osweiler had a decent game in his first NFL start. 20/27, 250 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs a win. All of it on his birthday.

The best stat of all those is the 0 INT. If Mr. Manning could only do that, the Donkeys might have been unbeatable.
