Isner vs. Mahut - WOW!

I watched most of that fifth set today. While they weren't moving well, they were striking the ball pretty cleanly. Not many unforced errors. If they were near the ball, they'd get it over.

The fifth set alone has lasted longer than most of the matches of the tourney.

The most staggering thing is that hardly any of the service games were challenged from what I saw. They were almost all easy holds. No one could win a single game on the other's serve. Not the most entertaining thing to watch, but it's still worth watching because it's so staggering. It's like a baseball game going 35-40 innings, at least. And that's just to this point...

I wasn't able to watch the match, but every time I heard the score on the radio today I just started laughing. As a tennis fan, this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. They've basically played 10-12 sets in the 5th set alone. I'm not sure there has ever been anything like this in any sport. Absolutely crazy.

I mean if we're going by specifics... a long hard fought tennis match will go about 60-70 games inbetween both. These guys are on pace to be done at around 150 games....
Thats essentially a 20 inning game in baseball... which do happen once a season or so (maybe not as much in the past, but that seems to be happening more now)
I guess in baseball you're also standing around or sitting, and you're constantly moving in tennis...

Remarkable though... it was by far the best sports day of the year so far, and one of the best overall days for Americans outside of the olympics... probably ever.

Definitely a crazy match - can't wait to see how it turns out. I heard that all of the other players were watching in amazement that they could even keep going. I wonder how much they will be hurting tomorrow. Too bad they can't declare both of them winners.

They've basically played 15 sets already, which is 3 times as long as a match usually goes...so it's really like a 27 inning baseball game. And yeah, in baseball you can run out of pitchers and stuff, but you don't have the exhaustion factor that goes along with being out on a tennis court by yourself for that long.

They both planned this all along. Anything to get themselves noticed. ****ers.

Looks like it's gonna go another 7 hours. Neither guy is getting close to breaking and there is no end in sight.

I don't know how they were even standing for all the post-match hoopla.

I thought it was pretty funny when the crowd started booing when they annoucned they wanted the players to stand by the sign for pictures. I'm sure Mahut wanted out of there, but I think someday he'll be glad the picture was taken. He at least recognized that it was the "best match ever," even though he lost.

I wonder how Isner will do his next match.
