Jazz Press Conference

Greg Miller came off to me as a cutthroat business man. He is in this to make money...if selling the Jazz makes him a good deal of money, I think he would do it.

It wouldn't make him a good deal of money. Selling the team, especially if they moved, would do WONDERS for his car dealerships.

I actually agree. There were things he didn't need to say, but did for some reason. Saying Deron would leave Utah anyway to have a chance to pursue his dream, no players are sacred, a 30 second conversation with the man who helped keep the franchise alive, etc. All true, but why say it? Totally came off as cutthroat. Greg just threw the pilots overboard and is in control of the ship.

I found it interesting how he did not want to comment if there was protections on the draft picks.

God I hope this isn't true. Though if it is but isn't protected in 2012 when there's a better crop of players, maybe that's a good thing. Of course the Nets could make the playoffs next year too so it sucks from that perspective.

I only saw the part where he talked about everyone's era coming to and end and didn't find it cutthroat at all. Just matter of fact in a very real way.

They did say something like "I think it is pretty safe to say that we`ll have the Jersey-pick this year." But does this mean that it is unprotected or top three-protected? It would be just frigging fantastic if it is top-three protected and they hit the lottery draw real hard...

He said he doesn't normally comment on that sort of thing, but he was willing to say that it's safe to say they'll be getting the Nets pick this year. So the reports of Nets unprotected, W's protected are probably true.

GS is only top 7. So good chance we get it in 2012.

Let's hope so. This team really needs ownership change. How about Greg saying he understands mindset of Deron, as a young guy, who wants to make as much money as possible during their relatively short careers, and therefore NY/NJ gives him the best chance, hence he saw him going there not not staying here. Well, this applies to everyone , because all good players you will get out of draft are going to be young guys who want to make money during their short careers. By this rationale, no one will want to stay in Utah, so why don't we trade all good players we draft?

True, he just wasn't informed it will be him being traded.

Oh, come on.

"Hi Deron, just wanted to tell you someone is being traded."
"Oh okay. Who is it?"
"Sorry, I'm not allowed to tell you."

Then next morning, Deron gets another call.

"Okay, so that trade we discussed last night is happening. Just so you'd know."
"Okay, thanks. I'm going to watch sportscenter with my teammates."

'Rumors has it Deron Williams is going to the Nets.'

"WHAT??? There is no way I'm getting on that plane."

To be honest I think all indications are that Greg has no real talent for business, cutthroat or otherwise.

What does he have that wasn't inherited or otherwise made for him? What significant growth has he presided over?
