Trey is playing well, above expectations, but c'mon, he's not the second best player on the team. There are at least five other guys ahead of him.
Easily the best stretch of games in Burke's career.
Trey still can't defend well and that's half of the game. He's better offensively but he still has a long way to go.
It's not just that he's making shots either... he is playing the right way. People knocking on his defense probably only watched the Detroit game... he's been fine.
I think it's time for him to start and we cut Neto from the rotation... anyone with me?
I'd be hesitant to start Burke.... if only because what he's doing (where he's doing what he's doing) is working. Let it keep working for a while. Pls.
But the guy who has impressed me the most has been Trey Burke. It’s a difficult situation to be asked to come off the bench after being a starter, which is what happened with him, and he’s extremely capable of starting for us. But I think he has really embraced his role and he’s been huge for us coming off the bench. He’s been the reason why we’ve won some games, with his energy and his scoring in that role. For him to be so committed to the team aspect that he’s embraced that, and can come off the bench, still play well and honestly give us a big lift, has been really impressive to me. It says a lot about who Trey Burke is.
- Gordon Hayward
Nice ... Trey's attitude has been excellent and his play decent. The question for the Jazz now is does he accept being a career backup on a hopefully successful team or does he still feel like he can be a starter and seek a big deal elsewhere after his rookie deal expires. What do you honestly feel his worth is now ??
I would say his ceiling is Mo Williams lite ... what kind of salary would that demand?

I have no interest in seeing Trey with the other starters. I don't think he fits that role and don't like him on the floor with Hayward all that much. He's been the best in his career as a backup, don't mess that up by starting him in a role he doesn't fit.The Jazz need another point guard so that Burke can go to the starting lineup without seeing our second unit fall apart. We lost so many games in Q2 last year, and Burke is winning those now. I'd rather see the starting 4 continue to mask Neto's weaknesses but would be great to get Trey rockin with the starting 5.
Well, to me there is more to it than that. He has been a nice scorer for the 2nd unit this season, props to him. But he is not much of a pg, and he is still really short and not much of a defender. What happens when Exum is back and getting 30 mpg? Does Neto fill the role you need better than TB? Jury is out, but TB better keep shooting well.
What makes him "not much a PG" exactly? He has done a great job making decisions most of the year. Which includes getting players really good looks all season. Guys just aren't making shots which isn't a reflection of Burke's decision making and/or passing.
Below average at passing for a PG, cannot run a fastbreak, cannot push tempo bringing the ball upcourt. He is more of a short SG than a PG. One glaring example is how he does not help Hay get shots when both are on the court at the same time. Any good PG is going to emphasize getting the ball to the teams best shooter in good positions.
Right now he provides what the second unit needs, another shooter. Long term I don't see it. I think Neto is more likely to the long term solution at backup PG while trading TB for a real 3 and D guy.
He is more of a short SG than a PG.
His assessment is pretty spot on. Trey is what he is, a below average defender and a SG in a PG body. He's hitting shots this year and staying within the offense far better than he ever has before, and that's great. But he's still a below average defender and passer for a PG.He set Hayward up for 3 open 3's last game before he left. Hayward just missed. Either way I don't agree with your assessment of Trey.
Yep.
Someone made the comparison of Mo Williams lite. I think that is the best comp for trey that I have heard yet
