What's new

Following 2016 potential draftees

What's this year like PG wise? I remembered Kris Dunn being ranked as late lottery last year but he's up to #7 this year? What gives!? Is this year's crop that much worse than last year?

Also Zhou Qui - can this guy make 3's? If not I don't know if he'll make much impact in the NBA given his frail frame...

Edit: he has the best sounding name in the draft BTW.

His body definitely looks like it's a couple of years away from being NBA ready. If I had to pick anyone of the general consensus lottery talent to bust, it would be him. But then again, Rudy has proven as long as your extremely long and have good instincts combined with quicks, you can make an impact without having good bulk.

Watch this. Single game highlights. His team hasn't lost in the CBA yet. Another good game earlier today. Monster statline.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UaZHgYIGuU <-- Check this out. Way back somewhere on Jazzfanz I compared him to Porzingis.

Drafting bigs based on NBA 3 point potential is a fool's game. C'mon, we've learned that by now. Noah Vonleh was 48% in college and 18% in the NBA. Derrick Williams was 54% his last college year and 30% in the NBA (and not getting better). We all heard of Pleiss' unreal 3 point shot, he's yet to make one in the NBA preseason or regular. The extra distance on an NBA 3 point shot is a big hurdle for bigs that cannot be predicted.

Future Potential Jazzman Furkan Korkmaz scored 25 a few days ago. Interesting to see if he gets good PT in his Euroleague game. If he does and it becomes a trend I could easily see him move up. Unfortunately this would be bad for the Jazz.

I actually think KU will wax them, obviously they have a few players that are feast-or-famine so their not the easiest team to call. If Wayne Selden plays like he has been (13/23 from 3!!) I definitely like Kansas.

I had KU as the #2 team in the country pre-season, behind UK though. Of course Diallo was factored into that.

If Vandy's going to win Wade Baldwin will need to do plenty of the heavy lifting, and he's certainly capable vs Mason.

Wouldn't be surprised if Devonte Graham gets loose either, I think this is a potential good matchup for him, I don't know who on Vandy can keep him out of the lane.

Hate to say I told ya so... but..

Few things

-Oregon's Chris Boucher with 17-9-9blks in 28 minutes.. He reminds me a bit of a bigger version of John Wallace the 18th pick in '96. I'd certainly look at a player like him in the 2nd over Kyle Wiltjer... Boucher is 4/12 from 3 thru 5 games.

-UNLV's Patrick McCaw's stats are pretty nifty right now. 19.2 ppg, 3.7boards, 4 asts, 3 stls, and 43%from 3 on 6.2 attempts... Obviously if he keeps playing like that, someone will draft him in the first round.

-Bill Walton is too senile to do the games, he's actually an embarrassment.. Even for ESPN's standards. Often times he's got a point but he feels the need to speak down to the play-by-play guy to make it. Was good to see Jon Sciambi put him on blast a few times. I'll still listen to Walton though, he's not yet achieved Reggie "Giannis is a tall drink of water" Miller, instant mute status.

- With wing being one of the bigger question marks in this draft, if Wayne Selden continues to shoot 3's at this prolific rate. He's going to make himself some lost monies back, for sure. At least will become a priority 2nd rounder.

- Devonte Graham's(KU) at 41% from 3 on 4.4 attempts per, his AST/TO ratio is 4½:1 and he's at 2 steals per game. Certainly on 2nd round radars. I'd take him on the Jazz in that range for sure. He's 6'2", long armed, and a damn good athlete.

- Looks lke Sviatoslav will need to prove himself in limited minutes, but very heavy shot attempts per in those minutes. Not the best situation tbh.

- Domantas Sabonis(Gonzaga) at 83% early on from the FT line. If he can shoot like that, IMO he'll certainly end up in the first round. Shot in the mid-60's as a freshman. He's also shooting nearly 80% from the field.

- DX has NY's own, Thomas Bryant(Indiana) overrated. He should've been able to make more of an impact(especially on the boards) vs UNLV. Dwayne Morgan out rebounded him, it's no secret that Zimmermans been sick.

- Eric Davis(Texas), 6'3" combo(scoring)guard who's one of my favorite 4-star players in this incoming class, started out the Texas A&M-Texas matchup by drilling 4 early 3 pointers, He finished with only 19, tied for a game high. Still a great showing, his best thus far. Worth keeping an eye on, Davis can shoot, and get red-hot doing so.

- Danuel House is very draftable in the 2nd round, some team will surely take a flier.. 6'7" Senior SF with a good 3pt shooting stroke, 39% on 7.2 attempts so far. He's also a factor on the boards and can pass some.

- It's early, looks like Maryland PG Melo Trimble won't be shooting 41% from 3 again this year though..

- Daniel Hamilton, aomehow is flying under the radar, his periphrial stats have gotta far exceed what anyone could've expected. At this point he's gotta at least be a priority 2nd round pick.. Here's his stats thru 4 games 10.5ppg, 8.5rpg, 7apg.. He's a legit 6'7" too. Some team will bite.

- Decent game for Brandon Ingram, his 2nd best as a dookie. Matt Jones is still shooting near 50% from 3 this year, he's been one of my favorite sleepers, and gets overlooked on Duke's roster. I'd entertain using one of the 2nd round picks on him. He's a marksman and a legit 6'4".. It's early but Luke Kennard has started his dookie career 4/23 from 3 or 18%..

- Michael Gbinije is an interesting old *** player, he might be able to sneak into the 2nd round at 24! 6'6" he's got some defensive potential, Cuse uses him at PG at times. He's also 14/27 from 3 to start the year, which obviously will make or break his chances. This Syracuse team can shoot!

- Cuse's best Freshman Tyler Lydon totally looks like an NBA player, his best game yet. 18/8/2/2/6blks 2/4 from 3 in 26 stat-stuffing minutes off the bench.

- Wake's Sr. Devin Thomas with another great showing in an upset victory 21/9/1/2/1, 9/11 from the FT line too. he's more ofa 70% type.

Braugh... we all know you like saying this more than anything else.

Your correct. Let me apologize for being right, don't ya hate it when that happens?!

Actually, I just recognize that here on Jazzfanz I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't. So I do it anyways.

One might call it, flexing on these lames..

Truthfully I'm ready to discuss the minutiae of the game. That's why I brought it up. If Vandy would've won there'd be certainly have been chatter here about it.

Vandy lost by 7 in a game they shot 22% from deep and Kansas shot 50%. Wayne Selden really balled out and kept Kansas from losing the game in the 1st half. Vandy just imploded early in the 2nd and couldn't hit open shots. It happens, sometimes teams get lucky. Damian Jones and Luke Kornett utterly shutdown Perry Ellis like I thought they would, Vandy just missed open shots (which is rare).

Also, Graham scoring 1 more PPG than his season average is a very loose interpretation of "getting loose".

Damian Jones is going to be a good NBA big and I think will be drafted lower than he should since he doesn't have flashy offensive potential.

Agreed. I remember bringing up Jones to Peeks last year. Kid has solid NBA size/athleticism/fluidity from what I recall in the one game I watched.

I disagree. In a 70-63 game he obviously got loose, even was a factor on the boards. Vandy certainly couldn't slow him down. He's a mismatch at SG.

I thought Graham showed better than Baldwin for sure.

I didn't bump anything.
