**** article. That aside, I used to look at porn all the time, but somehow got bored with it. Now I will look out of boredom once every 2 or 3 weeks.
I dont want to look it up but there was a funny study that more or less said porn addiction was fake. It said if you believed you were addicted it was a problem but people who didnt think they were addicted were fine and looked at the same or more as people who believed they were addicted.
Porn addiction is in peoples head, like half the addictions people claim it is fake. If you want to look at no porn or less porn then stop its within everyone's self control.
Just because an addiction is psychological doesn't mean it's "fake". Those can be very difficult to break as well.
The only reason this is an addiction is because someone says they are addicted. More importantly it is only an addiction because our puritanical part of society make people feel guilty for no reason and convince them they are addicted. Habits can be hard to break but that doesnt make them an addiction.
I don't think it's that simple. Some people are obsessed with porn, and it ends up costing them their careers and families since they will look at porn for hours at work, on planes, on their phones while with people, etc. It's not as simple as "did you know that you're not really addicted and it's just society's puritanical restrictions?". A more obvious example is psychological addiction to gambling, which often ends up costing people everything.
I don't think there is that meaningful a distinction between ruinous habits that are hard to break, and addictions.
I tried to understand your post but I kept getting distracted because I needed to go look at porn.I dont want to look it up but there was a funny study that more or less said porn addiction was fake. Studies have not backed up this theory. It does have some straight forward logic but I am not sure it's true. It's a similar logic and argument people have against violent games and movies. I think people have the ability to separate fantasy and reality.I think it was AtheistPreacher who posted a TED talk about porn. It was really interesting.
The point of the TED talk was that internet porn today provides the opportunity to view many different women in pornographic situations and it demonstrated that stimulation increases with that variety. Not to mention that the majority of women in porn have above average physical attractiveness. But as a person gets accustomed to viewing multiple unique women in a short period of time they begin to rely on that to achieve the required amount of stimulation to become satisfied. So, for our young boys, who have access to internet porn before the generally have access to female sex partner, they can develop this skewed sense of sexual stimulation before their first encounter with a female. Then, when they are with an actual female they are not being adequately stimulated and therefore have a rather disappointing encounter, one that can often be embarrassing and emasculating because they do not perform well and may not be able to maintain an erection. This further engrains this fantasy vs reality dysfunction into their sexual psychology. It can be a real problem. You can call it porn addiction or not, but if a person requires multiple images of different women in order to become stimulated and that same person has negative experiences with real life sex then their sexual desires are going to be focused around that which provides them sexual satisfaction.
I think you are wrong about the ability to separate fantasy from reality. I've read some pretty compelling studies about it but I'm not sure where to find them. Maybe I simply fantasized about reading these studies. They sure seemed real.Studies have not backed up this theory. It does have some straight forward logic but I am not sure it's true. I believe the TED talk was based on a study. It wasn't about porn addiction, it was about sexual stimulation and what internet porn, specifically fast access to many different nude women did to men's simulation levels. It showed that if you typically access multiple images of different women you are less stimulated by lack of variety. I'm on my phone but I could try to find the TED talk tomorrow.Studies have not backed up this theory. It does have some straight forward logic but I am not sure it's true.
