Who are the 10 greatest NBA Players of all Time?

I'd go

1. MJ
2. KAJ
3. Wilt
4. Shaq
5. Magic
6. Kobe (always disliked him but consistency of dominance is hard not to appreciate, and if I need one guy to win me the game other than MJ kobe is next in line for me)
7. Duncan
8. Lebron
9. Bird
10. Hakeem
----------------
Others considered (no order)
Russell
Big O
Malone
West
Dr J

I didn't look at what everyone else posted so as to not be swayed in any particular direction. My 10 in no certain order.

Jordan
Magic
Bird
Russell
Hakeem
Duncan
Kareem
Robertson
Shaq
Lebron

Yep, I left Wilt off the list. I know he was statistically dominant but the guy was a clown who didn't care about winning. He cared about his stats. If I am picking the 10 best, winning has to come ito play.

Stockton completely owns one of the major statistical categories in all major sports. It's one of the most unbreakable records. He's also the all-time leader in another statistical category. Also, the team he quarterbacked won more games than any other team during the 90s.

Anybody who doesn't think he belongs in the conversation is dumb.

The argument against his inclusion invariably comes down to championships. I watched all those games; he certainly wasn't the reason the Jazz didn't win. The number of championships is an important metric, but it is over-used in arguments of this kind. For example, Kobe has 3 of Shaq's rings, and 2 after the Lakers paid for a squad of all-stars. It's hard to hold his 5 up against Tim Duncan's 5 and say "equal". Duncan's mean more. Etc.

Nah, what it comes down to is that at his best he wasn't good enough for this discussion. Stockton was very good for a very long time, but I don't think I'd say he was ever a top 3 player in the league, let alone the best.

I'm discussing him. Put me next to the best analysts of the NBA and its history and I'll discuss Stockton. He's in the discussion.

Every player on my list dominated the game at some point in their career. Every one got an MVP. Every one got a title. There are a lot of things against Stockton and it's not just the titles. Like I said besides Larry Bird, Stockton was my favorite player ever. He does not belong in this conversation. Simply put he would not be considered by anybody but a serious Utah Jazz homer, and shouldn't be even then.

I will say Stockton had at least 6 years in a row where he put up better numbers then Nash's two MVP years. It was a different game back in Stocks day. Had he put up his numbers today that he did then he'd be considered one of the most dominant players to ever play the game.

Iverson
Jordan
Shaq
Wilt
Big-O
Magic
Bird
Kemp
Hakeem
Sabonis

my criteria: comes to mind first at the heat of the moment.

LMFAO if Stockton or Malone are on your list.

For me, in no order:
Jordan
James
Magic
Bird
Oscar
Duncan
Kareem
The Dream
Kobe
*Spot reserved for Steph Curry*

Hey nothing wrong with being a lil'
latest

2nd most points in NBA history, but LOL for being in teh conversation.

Yeap and he also deserves for being a bulldozer for his games played consecutively.

This is just as important as any other aspect for any coach I reckon:

And for the second straight season Malone played in all 82 regular-season games, something he would do a total of nine times. He ended the season on fire - scoring at least 30 points in each of the Jazz's last eight games, including a 41-point outing against the Seattle SuperSonics.

9 times, all of the regularity games. This deserves a big WOW.

I remember him shaking his head to Favors and Kanter and today's players for wearing armor and fearing injury. He was a badass.

Stockton was a good enough player to be considered top 10 all-time and I bet a lot of people would agree with me. His numbers support it. His clutch, injury-free play support it. The fact that he played for a team that never won it all shouldn't be held against him. He was the best facilitator ever and one of the best competitors in the history of sport. He played 19 seasons. He was still one of the best PG's in the league at 41 yr. old. What other player is so far ahead in one category all-time, much less two categories(assists and steals)?

Well, I'm concurring with you on this one, big time! You have to consider stats and championships and although Stockton nor Malone have any championships, the stats they've accumulated in there careers certainly warrant top 10 players of all time! Kareem is really #1 since he has both...stats and championships! Wilt has to be there as well. Jordan has the championships, but is a tad bit short on stats, but I'd put him there begrudgingly! Duncan will definitely be there both stat wise and championships. Both Bird and Magic have championships but way short on career NBA stats. West and Shaq are OUT of consideration, no stats, few championships, especially West! Lebron is piling up some great stats fast, but will his body hold up over the next 5 years? Durant and Oscar Robertson? Can’t do it…not enough championships nor anywhere close to career stats! Bill Russell has more championships that anybody, but only a few obscure rebound stats worth mentioning. (maybe blocked shots?)

So here goes:

Kareem
Wilt
Jordan
Duncan
Stockton
Malone

...that's 6! I need more time to come up with 4 more guys!

.....yeah, begrudgingly....and I was born and raised in Chicago! But left way before Jordan ever played a game for the Bulls! I was there when Sloan and VanLear were the guards! Anyway, I'm adding Lebron and Curry (Curry begrudgingly as well!) based on what they are accomplishing and what they probably will end up with statistically! So now I've got 2 more guys to choose! I'm thinking, I'm thinking!

Ok, I'm going with Bird and Magic! That means only 2 white guys on my "all time" team! So there, who could possibly accuse me now of being bias or prejudice! Would love to sneak Rick Barry in there....but just can't do it! Hey, how about Brent Barry? He's the ONLY guy to ever win an NBA dunk contest....and will be the ONLY guy to ever do it! Oh, wait! I don't have Bill Russell on that team? Gonna have to kick someone off! Jordan!
