What's new

Knicks @ Jazz gamethread

Trey Lyles had more rebounds in a 3 minute span at the start of the 1st quarter than Bobby Portis has had all season.

He also got more minutes last night than Portis has gotten all season. Can't really play when the people ahead of your are Gibson/Noah/Gasol/Mirotic.

Including Portis' time in the D-league? Because that is where "my man" is now.

So far that is a Whiff by me. But it is only December of their rookie years. I expect, that all things being equal, Portis will be a better rebounder than Lyles throughout their careers.

But lyles is better than I feared.

I'm talking about leadership not points. His point scoring ability is a given, but when he come out tonight aggressive and controls the game that's leadership. That's taking the bull by the horn and saying "I got this".

This is what makes great ones great. Their ability to take games over night in and night out. Hayward has the ability to do so(like tonight), but he has yet to do it on a daily basis. We need that guy if we ever want to be a force IMO.

Also, if you look at his stats in Wins/Losses, we actually win when he is less aggressive and just hitting 3 pointers. In losses he takes more shots and gets to the foul line more.

Favors is the only player where his W/L stat's point to his aggression being a key determinant of winning games. Burks/Hayward both score more, take more shots, and more FT's in losses (Burks by a huge margin). Wins usually come from good 3pt shooting and Favors down low.

Whiff? You expected Portis to get minutes his rookie year? It was basically written in stone that Portis is going to have to wait til Noah, Gasol, or Gibson leave Chicago before he sniffs the floor.

Kinda like Gobert favors or booker

I forgot to add Mirotic in that. Gobert has been injured, so Lyles has gotten more minutes. He was kind of on the verge of falling out of the rotation. It's hard to see any rookie big outside of the elite rookies getting minutes with the Bulls.

Good point about mirotic

What if...........IF

What if Rudy makes the kind of offensive progression that Favors has made? ? ?

Granted, he's older than Faves was when he got to the Jazz, but both guys came to Utah as raw, athletic, defensively strong, offensively challenged big men.

Rudy is the epitome of defensive anchor and Derrick is better as a bruising ***-kicking power forward.

Derrick looks amazing because he's been working his *** off for 6 years to get better. The improvements have been incremental at times, but the overall package is exciting now that it's starting to come together. I'm way more interested in where they will both be in terms of development 3 years from now.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. It's going to be effing awesome! Just need our other starters to play better than Lyles, Hood and Neto have this far.
