Quin needs to make a change

At some point just have to come to terms the Jazz don't have the talent with Rudy and Exum out to beat the elite teams. I don't think there is any amount of mixing and matching the Jazz could have done to beat a team like OKC. The starters are sending mixed signals to Quin. They had amazing 1st quarters against NY an Indiana, but got crushed against OKC and Sacramento. The one move I would consider is moving Withey in the starting lineup or at least giving him 5 more minutes a game. I don't like Favors playing center for more than 10-15 minutes a game.

I would start Burks the next game because they have Roberson guarding Hayward, which means Durant would have to guard Alec and you know Alec will just blow by him. That will force the Thunder to change things and maybe put them back on their heels at the start. I would just clear the lane for Alex and let him go to the rim which would open things up.

Also... a bit off topic but... doesn't it seem odd that our talent, who are all in their early 20s play so few minutes (g leading the team in mins at 35)? The bench production would be far less of an issue if our top 7 or 8 guys played more mins.

And TB took the bait. LOL

Can't be too hard on him, he is playing better. But I would love to see him stop shooting when he is on the floor with Hay and/or Favs and focus on feeding them. He has shown he can and will run the PNR well with Favs but he does not seem to ever get an assist with Gordon.

This is quite possibly one of the lowest IQ comments. If teams are giving Burke the shot why in the world would he pass it up? The reason he should be starting is because he has shown the ability to make those shots he's given. It's when he's trying to create his own shot with the back ups where his percentages dip. Burke has shown the willingness and ability to set his guys up when defenses give him the passing lanes. The reason Neto shouldn't start is because teams aren't respecting him.

No sorry, you are the one with the low IQ. Defenses "give" shots to the guys they want to take them, the guys they figure will cause the least damage. Now, maybe they are going on old data and Trey is hurting them this year by making a higher percentage, but they if they give him shots it is because they want him shooting instead of Hay or Favs or Burks. Likely as much as anything because he gets fouled so little and they get fouled a lot. NB: Trey's shooting is dropping, down to 0.383% in last 10 games. Lets hope that is a trend that he reverses.

What you are saying is don't take open shots. Which in turns puts more pressure on the the guys who you feel should be taking those shots. The team is essentially 4 on 5 offensively when Neto plays because team don't really have to guard him. Trey is hitting a high percentage of 3's especially of the catch and shoot variety. Also he's shooting well enough off the PNR both those skills makes life easier for Favors and Hayward. As opposed to Neto who isn't doing either well.

Smart basketball is as much about making the right plays is it is forcing the ball into the hands of capable players. Shooting when open has and will always be smart basketball given a player can consistently make said shots.

I dont think Thunder gave Burke 3pt shots. Billy Donovan specifically said they would have to focus more on stopping Burke on Sunday.

Of course, the bolded being the issue. Like I said, it may just be that teams are less confident TB will make shots based on past history. If you make the shots, yeah you make them pay. If you make the shots.

If they do, hopefully TB can take advantage of that to get more shots for the other guys, ie, make the defense pay for that adjustment. And if that is true, that is a recognition that TB is being more effective and more of a concern to other teams. Hope he keeps it up.

As to the OP, Quin needs to keep doing what he is doing and building for the future 2 to 10 years from now.

I think this is really what's lost about Quin. Every decision he makes seems to be around building the foundation for the future and developing the players. I mentioned this earlier but a lot of fans don't realize (because of the slow pace) that the Jazz are 10th in offensive rating with the group and "talent" we have on this team right now. That bodes VERY well going forward.

Which means if teams are focused on taking open Trey's away from Trey it opens up the lanes for Hayward and the post for Favors. And if they focus on taking away the mid range shot off the PNR that allows Hayward to spot up and create open lanes for Favors. It's simple basketball.

This is a good point. Trey took most of the shots from Hayward and Favors last night. I mean he was hitting them for the most part so there is no complaint there.

6-15 is not acceptable. That's 40%, which I realize is good for Trey, but it is still inefficient. Gordon and Derrick should have gotten 5 of those shots. Was one of the factors leading to the close loss.

I meant to say at the end of the game.

I agree

I'd like to see the lineup tinkered with, at times, according to our opponent. Burks and Booker should have started against OKC (instead of Neto and Lyles).

Yeah, I can understand that, but it seems like all coaches are loathe to do that. Not sure why it is that big of a deal, especially if you see a key mismatch with the other team.

This is the part where watching the games matter instead if just pointing to numbers. Trey threw a half court heave and the last second shot to end the game. These are shots that need to be taken players should not be penalized for. With that in mind he was 6-13(46%) which is completely acceptable.

The biggest change is the ball isn't in Hayward's hands more. His assists are dropping in Snyder's offense from 5.2 apg 2yrs ago-to 4.1 apg last year ----to 3.3 apg this year.We know Neto and Burke aren't getting it done moving the ball or racking up assists.
The Jazz are 10 - 11 now and could be 10 - 13 by tomorrow night. This is the 2nd yr of Snyder now, when we going to see better offense with a bunch of young offensive players on his team.Everyone here agrees Favors and Hayward need more touches and featured more for Jazz to have a better chance to win.

At this point there's really no rhyme or reason not to start Trey and Alec from here on out. This season the best 5 players has been (in no order) Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Burks, and Burke. What's so difficult about making this your starting line up. Start Burks and Burke with Booker until Gobert is back. Play them the majority of the mins. Sometime the best course of action really is simple.
