What's new

Do we have another trade in us by 3pm ET ?

Great Plan Greg Miller...Trade away your only asset while you let your largest liability (AK) stay. If this guy is such a great business man why hasn't he figured out that AK's contract killed our team and he really needs to dump it.

It appears that we want that salary to come off our books, rather than taking on other salary. So it's our asset that we likely keep. Greg Miller didn't sign AK to the ridiculous contract though, LHM did.

i can picture it in my head. Greg and KOC in their offices at the ESA. dozens of phones all around them ringing off the hook, other teams making desperate offers of Gerald Wallace, Kendrick Perkins, Dwight Howard, etc, all for our "largest liability". tears streaming down their faces... "We'll never trade him! NEVER!!!"

Are you even serious? It is not even close!

You do realize it's Robin and not Brook? I don't see anything about R. Lopez' game that is worth trading Milsap for. We can get more for Sap and Lopez is a redundancy at this point. If given the same minutes I think Fes could easily match R. Lopez' numbers. Well, except for free throw %.

Robin Lopez has less size than Fes, but actually displays effort, is capable of running the court, and makes a defensive presence. Fes is a gigantic man who lacks intensity and either just watches the other team play offense or is so late to react that he fouls thus bailing out the other team. Fes has the body, but I doubt he will ever listen to High School Musical and get his "head in the game".

The Suns were offering Robin Lopez for Millsap? I love Millsap and Lopez has some question marks, but IMO that is something you consider.

Can someone tell me the point of keeping Jefferson after all of this? Does HE even want to be here now?

Yeah, if Phoenix throws in a 1st round pick. Otherwise, I'd laugh them off the phone. There's enough guys in this league who play solid defense with no offensive skills. You don't give up a 16/8 guy who plays solid defense like Millsap for that.

Well, if KOC really wanted to trade Millsap for Lopez and Pietrus, then it seems like he wants to build around Jefferson. Maybe he thinks that teaming up Jefferson with another defensive big (Lopez and/or Favors) is a winner. I'm not saying I agree with that, but maybe that's what he wants to do. Along with Harris, and a couple of wings with the upcoming draft picks, we're back in business?

You just described Millsap's first two seasons with the Jazz, only being the size of a burly SF instead of a legitimate giant. And I think the Jazz did the right thing turning them down, but context is important when evaluating trades and right now, I have no interest in seeing what the non-rookie contract players bring to the table because I know it will be awkward and not enough.

More than anything, I don't know why the Jazz didn't flip Harris and trade Jefferson. If the Jazz are so concerned about losing '11-'12 and the related negotiating periods, they effectively took on $23.5 million in salaries for 2012 by letting the deadline pass today. That's $23.5 million committed to players that don't complement each other, look like some other team's players even wearing Jazz uniforms, and on a team with no direction whatsoever.

To me, that's stupid.

No more trades. The Deron trade was a mitigation of future risk. Any other moves would likely entail more risk. The Jazz are very risk-averse. Now they stand pat and look to the draft.

At the risk of a storm of negreps for quoting my own post.....this.

I would have done the Millsap deal even though I am a huge Millsap fan. I guess Jazz fans forgot how Lopez dominated the last time we played. He isn't as bad offensively as people think. Lopez and AJ starting with Favors coming off the bench for a few years. Then if Favors becomes as good as people think he will you trade AJ for some additonal help.

With nothing to show for it either. I can't believe the Jazz didn't dump more players especially AK.

Do you think we were going to get an all star or something? We were either going to get a bad contract back or actually have to trade a 1st round pick or something (for instance to Sacramento who is well below the cap) to get somebody to take his salary.

I would have liked to see a play made for Wallace, Green, or Mayo, but it's not a big deal that we missed out on those guys. I am glad we didn't do the ROBIN Lopez for Millsap deal. We have absolutely no idea how good Favors will be for the Jazz, so standing pat was probably the better move.
