GT: Kings @ Jazz. 7 MST.

would you rather a better lottery pick than say scraping into the playoffs but being reasonably competitive while getting swept, or maybe sneaking one win ?

This. The playoffs is a whole different world, the atmosphere. Kids like Gobert, Hayward, Favors, Hood, Burks... they all need to start feeling the sense of achievement that playing hard brings. I think it's a very healthy goal to set. And boosts the underrated chemistry factor in a team.

I agree Mr Jamezz as long as we don't scrape in with 34 or 35 wins and get flogged by 25 pts a game. But if we can get in with 40 wins and get a taste of playoff intensity i think that would be a good thing for the young team.

Every single young up-and-coming team that squeaked into the playoffs last year is out of the playoff picture and doing much worse this year. Doesn't make any sense, I thought they all leveled up?

It's all that intense experience bruh. You suck and you barely get into the playoffs, then you soak all that elite experience into your bones, and then you're suddenly better than all of those other teams ahead of you that also made the playoffs. Flawless logic.

So are we so gassed cuz QS has everybody laying it out there every night, or are we just asleep at the wheel?

I'm sorry guys. I'm just in a really bad mood. On top of this ****ty loss, I'm having the worst poker night of my life. This ****ing piece of **** idiot PLAYS EVERY HAND AND CALLS EVERY BET. But he can't ****ing lose! And people believe in God!! Down $250 to that **** already.

Scraping into the playoffs would give us nothing. We'd be out of the lottery, and "playoffs experience" is only meaningful when you have the building blocks for a contending team that just needs that little shove to push it to the next level. The Jazz, even when healthy, showed little improvement from last season. Exum will help, and so will an improved Lyles. But unless we are good enough to make use of that experience (and we're not), I'll take a top 10 pick with a chance at the top 3. Easily.

gotta get experience playing with each other. Injuries have really derailed that. I believe we do have building blocks, gobert, hayward, favors, mainly that would benefit from playoffs.

at this rate it might not be up to us to make it to the playoff, this is going to be a dogfight for that lousy 8th seed.

(8) Utah Jazz 17-21
(9) Portland Trail Blazers 17-24 (-1.5 game back)
(10)Sacramento Kings 15-23 (-2.0 game back)

The bad part too is it looks like we are going to lose all the ties against these teams.

Hayward, sometimes I'm all like "sweet" other times I'm like "meh". I wish someone on this team would play off ball, maybe i'd be all like "sweet" more often.

Online poker? Sounds like you have an addiction.

It's more of a hobby. Well, I've played 10s of thousands of hands over the past couple of months, so maybe it is an addiction. But it is an addiction that hasn't affected my life all that much. I do it in my free time. It's cost me very little money (I've become real good). And it doesn't get in the way of other things I want to do. So it's all right.

Lots of hyperbole in this thread.

There's a case to make for both sides of the argument - tank and get a better pick (because they've underachieved so far and need more talent) or play balls out to make it to the playoffs regardless of the end results because winning now should (hopefully) lead to more winning. It's not that making it to the playoffs makes you magically better. . . it's that making the playoffs gives you a chance to learn and grow on a big stage.

I'm 100% convinced that the Jazz team that went 19-10 (and played amazing defense after the All Star break last year) would not have been swept if they had made it to the playoffs. If this team can add a player at the deadline, GET HEALTHY, and start playing like that again. . . I think they'll at least be competitive. They won't get swept. They probably won't win, but they won't get swept. Also, an injury to Curry or Green completely changes the dynamics of the series. (Kind of like how Gallinari and Lawson going down impacted the Nuggets/Warriors series back in 2013 - as an example.)

I don't think making the playoffs automatically makes you better, but how you play on the big stage CAN give you a boost in confidence that can be built on for the future. But you need to get there first. The goal needs to be 42 wins. Get to a winning record and not focus on playoffs or seeding. No quality free agent is going to want to play for the Jazz if they stay treadmill or take a step back. The goal should be to win enough games (in conjunction with a big pile of money) to entice someone of value to come to the Jazz. Can't do that when you continue to miss the playoffs year after year.

Wait why would people want us to tank... To go from 15th to 10th. We were brick city tonight playing without 3 guys who should be healthy next year and we still almost won. Lyles is growing... Burke is a fine backup... Burks is a great bench player when he's healthy... What are we looking to pickup?

The playoff experience will benefit our guys even if they get swept. It shows progress which is motivating. Stay strong guys we will be fine.

I think we all want progress... Making the playoffs is just that. 5 spots doesn't seem like much to me in this years draft. Top 8 seem okay but after that it seems very eye of the beholder.

We have guys who are going to want to build and see progress that are going to be free agents... That factor plus the fact that players do grow because of playoff experience and it is well worth the lotto spots. The time for tanking has past... We are too good for that **** now

I wouldn't call the nets or pels up and coming teams. Lol. I think there is somehing said for a team like the Jazz who as a team feel blessed to be playing with each other and coming up together and learning together. We have a guy like Hood who is doing things in his second year that Hayward wasn't. And I'd have to look up numbers but I feel like he's on par with what Harden did his second year. Hayward and Favers are the vet leaders of this team, but still young and believe it or not, they are still getting better. Gobert is one of the most unique players to ever play the game, who could go down as one of the greats on defense. We have two very good scorers in Burke and Burks. Both have taken steps in becoming better players. Lyles is looking more and more promising every game, and from what I've seen I'm convinced he will be a floor spacer and Swiss Army knife. So when Favers and Gobert take a rest. Whithy and Lyles will be wrecking Apposing second units. The wild card in this is Exum. If he starts looking like the Exum from his one and only SL game this past summer, the Jazz will be contenders and wreck the league.

Plus there's also the fact that this team could climb in the standings as we get healthy and move up a couple seeds. Believe it or not I see the bench becoming very good over the next year or two. Of all the young teams in the league we are the most complete team and one of the more talented teams of the up and comers. For every pelicans team there's also a Suns team considered an up and comer last year. Missed the playoffs, and look at them today. There is merit to the whole getting destroyed, but there's also something to be said for craving the challenge as a young team that believe in each other. I think this team has been losing enough it's time to take another step. Getting a nice lotto pick is nice for fans and hard on fans seeing their team limp into the playoffs only to get out classed. If u ask each player to the last man. I think we know what they thirst for. Do u think that 7-9 Seahawks team regrets limping into the playoffs. I think not. As long as this team has been trying to find success and make postseason... They need this even if it doesn't last long. These aren't the Pelicans or nets. That's just laughable and idiotic.

Give me playoffs.

You at multiple tables at once? Seems hard to do that many hands in 2 months.
