None of the stories I've read can corroborate this.

And yes, given his public statements that he'd die before he went to prison, it's far more believable that he was fighting for his life and not surrendering.

Could he have been surrendering? Yeah. Is there anything he said in the past that makes us believe he would rather die? Absolutely.

All the eye witness accounts are that his hands were up and he stated that he was unarmed. Granted those eye witnesses are other militiamen that got arrested, like the Bundys.

But the police have not released any info.

It is very interesting to me to see different peoples takes on this as opposed to other cop shootings. just in general on here, FB, in public... I see a lot of 180s lol.

I don't think it was staged per say but I do think that they were openly daring the police to do something. They were in a federal vehicle stationed at the refugee. One militiaman had already been arrested for that. So it was an open challenge IMO. I don't think they planned on anyone dying though.

It cuts both ways. How many people who take lightly cop shootings of blacks are now up in arms about this one?

For the record, anytime a police officer uses deadly force when it is not warranted, it is at a minimum a tragedy and at worst outright murder and the officer should be held accountable for it as appropriate. Even if the person unjustly shot/killed is a 'dumb *** right wing whacko bird,' or some 'hoodie wearing hopper,' who 'had it coming to him.'

That's the account from the 18 year old girl who was with Lavoy at the time. Interesting that the guy, in the first car, who was arrested said he wasn't shot with his hands up and if you weren't there then to shut the **** up, although he admittedly didn't see the shooting. Is the girl making things up?

I wanted to know more about what actually happened during the arrest, as well as something about the people who were still hold up at the refuge. So I came across this, after first learning the driver of the second car had given a statement that Finicum charged the cops. The same article portrayed one of the remaining occupiers.

I questioned if I should post that clip the occupiers posted earlier today. By its nature, it's disturbing. But what we see there is out there in America today. I fully agree with the sheriff who said "this can't happen here". No, it can't, because these are sick people. Talk about anger management. I'm glad I came across that article. I don't want to see people die, but I have no empathy at all for this level of anger and hatred. Maybe not everyone in that group is reflected in this guy's feeds from there, but he's not alone there, either. This is a cancer if this idiocy is typical. I don't know enough about the militia movement, the people within the anti federal government movement. But I know a sicko when I see one. It's a shame this psychology, this mind set is festering and simmering in our country.

I wanted to see them better, and now I have. But if the mods want to take down the youtube video posted, I can understand that too. But there they are, in all their demented splendor.....

How can you believe an 18 year old who was laying on the ground with bullets flying over head. How could she see anything? Right now people are just making stuff up without really knowing. The reality is that when you go around making statements that you are willing to kill and be killed while ignoring law enforcements request to leave land that isn't yours, then stuff like this can happen.

Are you asking whether I believe her or just in general?
If I were to bet, she's exaggerating a dramatic experience and influenced by others to a certain degree. The thing I'm interested in knowing is whether it was 3 bullets as being reported or 120 she guessed. Lavoy's body alone should have more than 3 bullet holes according to her.

No I wasn't saying you, just in general. My point nobody knows the truth there is just a lot of speculation going on. Both sides are going to believe what they want to believe but in the end these guys overplayed their hands.

Can you point to a single post in this thread that says anything remotely similar to what you are implying that these people said.
