Go GET Teague

Exum is the long term answer at PG. If we trade for Teague, he will obviously start this year and next year, but he's the back up in terms of future plans. The question then becomes how much we will have to pay Teague (if he would even re-sign), and whether it's overpaying for a bench player. Unless Exum and Teague can play together at times--then it becomes less of an issue.

Gun to your head who would you choose? Teague VS Exum?

Teague is a proven player who is right at the top of his prime that can be had right now due to some pretty favourable circumstance for us. Exum on the other hand is coming back from injury, still unproven except for his defensive ability. He is still trying to learn the game and there is still a question mark over his shot. We CAN still bring him along slowly.

I would have to go with Teague at this point. He is more at the level of Favors, Gobert, Hood and Hayward, a group that is ready to go RIGHT NOW. At some point we have to say WE ARE READY TO GO NOW and just pull the trigger instead of being in a perpetual rebuilding mode.

I think Atlanta is prepared to get a downgrade at the 1. The point is to make Schroeder the starter, so they dont want to bring in a player who is going to demand starter minutes at the 1.

I fully believe Atlanta would take Burke + our pick if it was unprotected.
Yeah, they're obviously expecting to downgrade overall at the 1. Presumably, they'll want an upgrade somewhere else. I don't think a slight upgrade at the backup 1, and a pick at the end of the first round or in the second round makes any sense. For the Jazz pick, maybe.

Exum.

I dunno, what's the stats on guard/wing players coming back from an ACL and being GREAT? Off the top of my head Rubio, Jabari Parker, both of whom haven't looked all that great so far after their injuries. This is something we have to consider also...

Teague also serves as a backup plan in case Exum doesn't pan out.

Off the top of my head, Baron Davis and Kyle Lowry both tore their ACLs before they were even drafted.

Here's the list...

Players that have been successful coming back that I can see are Crawford and Lowry, but they are pretty good shooters and don't seem to rely too much on their lateral movement to be successful ala Exum?

I remember Rubio was tearing up the league at one point before the injury.. he's been ok since but nothing spectacular though.

Derrick Rose certainly hasn't been the same...

They both do most of their damage off the bounce. Neither is explosive, but both depend a lot on their agility/ability to change direction. You might want to watch a highlight video or two.

OK, but would you agree that every players are different and for every 1 successful recovery there would be 1 less successful recovery too?

All I'm saying is Teague is a nice insurance policy and we can bring Exum along a bit more slowly if we need to.

Gallo's also averaging a career-high 19.3 points per game, with a better TS% than his career average. Noel hasn't noticeably lost much athletically either. Derrick Rose seems to be more the exception than the rule.

Not based on that list.

Depends how you determine a 'successful recovery'. I mean would you say Derrick Rose has a successful recovery? I don't think you can say he is as good/explosive/effective as he was before the injury.

You're forgetting Davis (who I already cited).

If we're talking about Exum, I would exclude Bigs and Shooters from the list of comparables...

It sounds as if you're trying to convince us to exclude everyone but Derrick Rose.

Not at all, I don't have a horse in this race, just trying to come up with a list of appropriate comparables for Exum ... I think Rubio is a good comparable in terms of height, length, age, body type, not a shooter, both passers, playing the same position, good defenders, etc, but there are also others.

Both also rely on lateral explosiveness not vertical...

Ricky Rubio is still a very good overall defender. Tony Allen didn't lose much if anything either. Lowry, Crawford and Davis have also been mentioned -- Davis was explosive both before and after he tore his ACL.

Also, you have to toss out Rose right away. He's had multiple injuries over multiple seasons, which has almost certainly affected him psychologically.
