What's new

Go GET Teague

I dunno. His sudden burst of great play smells like an audition to me.

Unfortunately, it might just raise his price tag. It's easy to justify a lowball offer when he's struggling and dealing with injuries.

A little harder to do so when he's playing more like he did last year when he was an All Star. There's still rumblings that the relationship is strained and they intend to move him. Great play will likely attract more bidders and raise the cost to acquire him.

Fortunately though for us, we have won six in a row and are getting hot and not desperate enough to have to overpay.

Also, I just read that Blake Griffin could be traded. Not to us. Denver was a team mentioned. But would you guys do Favors, OKC 1st and a future protected 1st for him? Favors and one 1st for him? Favors for him? FWIW, I'm not promoting the idea of trading for him. I'm just sort of gauging the board. And let's face it, he's a stud, the stud we perhaps sorely need. And a lineup of Exum, Hood, Hayward, Griffin, Gobert is pretty damn good.

No. He's a jerk. I don't care how good he is. This outburst makes him a punk and smells of 'roid rage. Will the league wise up and test him?
Favors is a helluva 2-way player. Trade Derrick and Gobert is much less effective. Favors is a 17/10 player PLUS an elite defender who has improved every season. Not sure what his next contract will be, but I'd gladly take Derrick at $20M over Blake at $30M. That kind of money is going to be the difference between keeping our starting five or going with just 3 and filling the rest of the roster with rookie contracts and vet minimum deals.

Griffin would bail first chance he gets... Pass.

I would probably do favors and a pick for him... if it weren't for his salary vs favors salary.

Getting griffin makes it even harder to pay our own guys when the time comes.

I think griffin would be awesome on the jazz though

let it be known that his defense ain't great.

Seriously? Then screw him a backcourt player with poor D will do what Exum's absence did to the D-Minded Jazz.

But kudos to the OP for bringing this out because I really like what I see when I watch this guy. And the Jazz' success level will rise really high when they gain a clever and flexible playmaker to make this machine run.

And most especially, many players lack the hustle level in playing D because of the mindset of the team they are playing in. A good number of them can play a lot better hustle D when they lie under a coach that is strongly defensive minded. Hopefully, anyone who arrives to fill in this job is in that list. I am really high on Exum and Neto. Teague can gain the Jazz that time needed for these guys to keep getting better.

Snyder's past with Teague makes this even more probable. Utah Jazz is the kind of club that cares about these sorts of things.

I can cry after this happens as a Burks fan, and even an early fan of Trey Burke, but if the rumored Burke+Burks for Teague happens, that trade would be a steal. Not because I diss Burks' talent, but because of the kind of basketball he plays and it being different than the mentality of the Jazz. Burks can become even greater (hopefully healthy) somewhere else.

Take a look at this list. It is insane that What Jazz can do after this season.

Take a look at this list. It is insane that What Jazz can do after this season.

source: https://hoopshype.com/salaries/#hh-tab-team-payroll

You're not taking into account the raises that will be due some players. Most notably, Gobert is only on there for $3M per year. Just the raise for him alone vaults Utah to near the top, not to mention Hayward going from $17M to mid-$20's or even $30M and Favors from $12M to somewhere in the $20's. Jazz don't really have ANY cap room to play with beyond next season unless one of those three leaves or is traded.. And that's one reason I REALLY like the Teague deal. He'd be around just long enough to make a playoff push this season and ensure Exum doesn't have to be rushed back next year. Then he's gone just as Gobert and Hayward get new deals.
