Go GET Teague

Soo... previously from various trade rumours we've missed out on 2 star point guards: Eric Bledsoe and Reggie Jackson

Bledsoe - we seem to have dodged a bullet there with his knee injury and Suns are now stuck with his HUGE $70m contract

Jackson - jury's still out. He is driving that DET team but I'm still not sure about his efficiency...

So far it's 50/50 ... which basket will Teague fall into?

Neither, even if he failed miserably with Utah, Jazz would only be on the hook for 1 1/2 years of a salary that in no way hinders their ability to sign other free agents or keep their own.

Was going to say exactly this, but Stifle beat me to it. That said, I'd have made the trade for Reggie Jackson and then seen what RFA brought about.

But we would have already given up assets... so if he failed miserably that's a loss for us.

Burke, who I doubt Utah re-signs after his rookie deal is up and a late first. And who cares about how many seconds they want? Yes, I know we got Rudy late. But most late firsts amount to very little. You can sign a vet FA who generally gives you as much as a pick in the late 20's (which is where OKC's is likely to be).

If Burke and a late first is enough then why are we having this conversation?

I think they wanted Hood, and will settle for Burks + OUR first.... hence the current standoff.

My biggest question in the event of no trade happening involving Burke, is what the **** are we going to do with Burke when Exum comes back and Neto continues to improve?

Do we continue to go with Burke as the shooting presence off the bench, or do we go with Neto who provides more defensive presence and effort?

They aren't going to give away Teague for that little. They can give him away at the trade deadline next year for that same haul.

Burke is our microwave scorer off the bench, no different to Patty Mills for the Spurs. Neto would be the equivalent to a younger Cory Joseph and Ray McCallum who is a developing third choice and is added to the starting line up when the first choice (Exum in this case) is unavailable.

Players in the last year of a contract who will be UFA's usually net a 2nd round pick. Teague isn't a franchise player, but MAYBE they get a late first from a contender. Or a full year rental (i.e. trade during the summer, might fetch a little more). Yes, he's a former all-star. But he's also pressuring for a trade so that drives down what teams are going to offer as they think Atlanta will be forced to do a deal. It's a fair offer, They get a first and a former first who is showing he can be a pretty good backup PG/scorer. And the fact Trey will be a RFA is good. Atl - if they like him in the role - will be able to keep him for a pretty reasonable price.

I doubt Burke is on the team past the deadline next season. Jazz aren't going to make a QO of $4.5M for Burke as a backup after his rookie contract expires. Neto will only make $1M at that time. Jazz won't want to sign Burke or match any kind of offer. They'll deal him for as little as a 2nd-round pick. However, I COULD see them waiting until the trade deadline next season, just to give them 1/2 year insurance to make sure Dante is healthy and back to full speed.

Except allot crappier

Easy to say now but at the same age Burke is well and truly ahead. Mills was shocking up until he arrived at the Spurs and then figured it out, which it helped that they gave him a clear role to play. Which Burkes play and percentages this season give me hope that he too is starting to figure it out and with a couple of more years to keep working on his game and improving it I see no reason why he can't be successful in some form in this league. Which had you said that to me at this point last season I would have laughed at you.
