What's new

About time! Hooray!

Good news. Really feel the momentum for nationwide legalization. That's what really needs to happen.

Are there no safe havens remaining???

I moved to Utah for the explicit purpose to escape all this debauchery.

This article was written 2/5 and since that date the governing body of the Utah Legislature has voiced their concerns about the whole plant bill, basically rendering it dead.

Does the YB stand for You Buzzkill? Literally.

If and when bud is federally legalized and sold like alcohol it'll be the biggest cultural change maybe ever?

I think most of the people who want to smoke pot already do. I don't know what will or won't change as far as employment based drug testing, even with legalization, which would be one of the biggest factors keeping people who might want to use pot away from doing so.

I think the best thing will be that it will not be an excuse for police to interfere with you as you're going about your business, but I'm sure they'll find new ways to wedge themselves into the lives of poor people and minorities.

I would hope that anyone incarcerated solely on marijuana related charges would be released.

And now compare that to the industrial revolution, civil rights, women's suffrage, invention of the automobile/telephone/tv/internet...

I think it's safe to say it would not be in the top million cultural changes ever.

Yeah, but I do see the drug war (all of it, not just when it comes to marijuana) as a huge tragedy and a disgraceful ongoing period in the history of the U.S.. So many lives have been destroyed, so much inequality and injustice in the way it is being fought. I don't consider it a small deal at all. I think it has destroyed millions of lives that absolutely didn't need to be destroyed, and the vast majority of those lives are those of poor minorities...even though drug usage is pretty even across racial and socioeconomic lines.

I don't think it will change the culture very much at all, as marijuana culture is already very prevalent. Like I said, I think the majority of people who want to use marijuana already do. There are already shops in every city across the U.S. that sell marijuana accessories. Marijuana has been part of our culture for a long time.

I fully agree with all of this.

Is marijuana even decriminalized in Utah? Seems like that would be a good first step for Utah.

Millions of people have been imprisoned for just solely Marijuana, you don't think the US basically saying they are wrong is a huge cultural event?

Please list the million cultural changes you would rate higher.
