Shelvin Mack

Shelvin was alpha and really controlled the pace of play, especially the in the 2nd. I thought he and Booker had good chemistry with similar pace. Others not so much. Will Gobert run with Shelvin and contribute on both ends of the court. Mack's drive and dish game looked amazing. Holding teams to 90 or less may become less frequent.

Agreed. I liked the way he initiated the offense so quickly. Maybe it's just that Mack had barely practiced with the Jazz, but when Neto and Burke come up the floor it's very deliberate to the point of being plodding at times.

I'm sure Mack took Portland by surprise. They certainly didn't gamelan for our pg to break down their D on attack.

Love Snyder but does he have a killer instinct? He screwed the pooch by taking him out at the end of the half.

Yeah cuz it takes so much balls to start your 5th overall draft pick. Completely different set of circumstances.

I think he may have been referring to having Neto be the starter. And if he wasn't, then I'll make that point because holy ****.

BS 5th overall draft pick who had no college or real team basketball experience and shown mixed results to that point, replacing former college player of the year with a big reputation.

I think he'd have far more justification to sit one of the two now.

I didn't realize that Neto was drafted 5th overall.

Burke was coming into the season as the bench "sparkplug" PG w/ Exum healthy or not, so it really wasnt that big of a status quo change to make Neto the starter. Completely removing Burke from the lineup for a guy you got for a future 2nd round pick would be pretty ballsy though.

Any word on who will start against the Rockets? I'm really hoping they shuffle some things around and give Mack the start and Neto the backup minutes. Let's see what he looks like with Gobert, Favors, Hayward and Hood out there with him.

Oh, and please, please, please more Withey/Lyles and less Booker.

He really should start. No offense to Neto but Neto has been a dumb turnover machine lately.

Does Quin have the balls to flat out bench Neto or Burke though?

Snyder is at leas thinking about it. It is still extremely early but did DL just pull off another coup?

I like Mack and how he controlled the offense. However, he is a very poor outside shooter. If teams back off him and guard the drive, he won't look as good.

I will say this for him. He started his career behind two allstar pg's in Wall and Teague, and don't think he's had a consistent role with consistent minutes. That being said, and while I don't believe he's a good outside shooter, still, he may not be as bad as the numbers indicate. Hopefully with consistent minutes his shooting can improve, but who knows.

It will be interesting to see how pg mins are allocated. I hope Snyder isn't planning on giving three pg's consistent minutes.

He did shoot 40% from 3 his sophomore year. Now I am not saying that he will be averaging 40% while in Utah but the high 30s may not be unrealistic.

On 35 attempts. Come on. His career 3pt is under 32%. I'll take that if he can do other things well.

If you saw him warm up during the Portland game, you might be singing a different tune. It was pretty bad.

I stand by what I said. nothing either of you have said changes anything I said. He does have a bad career 3 pt %.

But he did shoot a decent % one year. He has had limited attempts and minutes throughout. With development and time maybe he can get into the high 30s.

It is a hopeful comment. nothing more, nothing less.

It is an unrealistic comment that has nothing to do with the reality of the situation. He shot 40% for a small part of a year on limited attempts. It's like expecting Burke to shoot 50% from the 3 because he did it for those 2 weeks in December.

And yet I am still hopeful that Snyder and company will improve his 3 point shot. The one where I openly said he was bad at except for one year. A point you keep brining up. If you don't like that then fine, don't like it.

Doesn't work for me. You must not like it as well. :(
