What's new

Donald Trump

I just watched Donald Trump's Vegas campaign rally live on C-SPAN. WOW! He looked unstoppable. If he faces Hillary he's going to destroy her. It's a massive mismatch.

I need to figure out whether he really is the man he appeared to be in that rally, or if he is the man who I believed him to be before watching it. Seriously, I feel like I've been hypnotized or something. One thing is for certain: he's become a master of the campaign rally format.

You're just out of touch with nearly every contemporary mind who studies women and gender for a living.

I do think focusing on one quote is too much-- but it fits all too perfectly with his then announced stance on Planned Parenthood.

Dala, I think you're being waaaaay oversensitive here. The guy pretty much stated nothing but fact. Also, his stance on PP isn't some new thing. It's been a long-time running in Ohio.

If that's the case, that's a really really sloppy way of describing his 70s campaign. I get that for the sake of parsimony he maybe just mentioned the kitchen line, but you simply have to be a better communicator.

Saying something like "I probably won my campaign thanks to the tons of female volunteers who, unfortunately, tended to live much more sedentary lifestyles back then-- meaning they were able to pour in more volunteer hours than the women of today can."

Statements like that also carries the stigma of how motherhood isn't really a "job" that demands the amount of work and time that it does.

Long story short, Kasich is a governor, and he should be a lot more careful throwing words like that around. If he wants to become president of the US, lazy slip-ups like this simply can't happen. Especially when you're going up against the Putins of the world. Just my opinion.

talk about stigmatizing and short-sighted thinking...

to refer to the women of a generation ago as "sedentary" shows how LITTLE you understand the real world - - actually I think housewives (which, at that time, were far more numerous than today) are far LESS sedentary than most women who work outside the home...

just think about it Dala...

How much about you and your beliefs should I read into that idiotic little statement of yours?

lazy slip-ups, eh? LOL

This is an article that's more than 6 months old. That's kind of my point. This is constantly described as something that's right around the corner but nothing ever comes of it. I'm not certain why it would suddenly be different this summer, this fall, or ever.

An honest opinion: Trump might end up with less than 100 electoral votes if he was the general election candidate. I suspect a lot of GOPers would stay home or vote for someone like Gary Johnson instead. I would expect a near Walter Mondale level thrashing. The level of distate for Trump is so high I just can't see it going well for him. And I say this as someone who is pretty sure that Hillary might be able to lose an election to someone who did a particularly compelling John Belushi impression with his butt.

Interesting, Trump being sued for fraud and will have to take the stand to defend himself. I have no idea what the merits of the case are, just thought it was worth mentioning as another aspect of Trump's unique candidacy.

Here’s a part of the political calendar that nobody in the Republican Party seems to have noticed: This spring, just as the GOP nomination battle enters its final phase, frontrunner Donald Trump could be forced to take time out for some unwanted personal business: He’s due to take the witness stand in a federal courtroom in San Diego, where he is being accused of running a financial fraud.

In court filings last Friday, lawyers for both sides in a long-running civil lawsuit over the now defunct Trump University named Trump on their witness lists. That makes it all but certain that the reality-show star and international businessman will be forced to be grilled under oath over allegations in the lawsuit that he engaged in deceptive trade practices and scammed thousands of students who enrolled in his “university” courses in response to promises he would make them rich in the real estate market.

Although the case has been winding its way through the courts for the past five years — and Trump has denied all wrongdoing — the final pretrial conference is now slated for May 6, according to the latest pleadings in the case. No trial date has been set, but the judge has indicated his interest in moving the case forward, the pleadings show.

“This is pretty amazing,” said Scott Reed, a veteran Republican Party consultant, about Trump’s upcoming due date in federal court. “Usually, you clean this stuff up before you run for president.”

Trump’s new lead lawyer in the case, Daniel Petrocelli, best known for representing one of the slain murder victims in a civil suit against O.J. Simpson, did not respond to emailed questions about Trump’s upcoming testimony, including how long he expects his client to be on the witness stand.

As noted by Yahoo News last week, the Trump University case has already intruded on Trump’s political schedule. On Dec. 10, 2015, during a day he was making international headlines over his pledge to ban Muslim immigrants from the United States, Trump managed to escape any press attention and give a closed-door pretrial deposition in the case, according to court filings reviewed by Yahoo News. Exactly what he said in the deposition remains under seal, but lawyers for Tarla Makaeff, a California yoga instructor who is the lead plaintiff in the case, cited portions of his testimony (blacked out in her pleadings) to support their contention that Trump has threatened to ruin her financially for bringing the lawsuit and that she needs protection from his “retaliation.”

But the upcoming civil trial could be a much bigger burden on Trump’s time. If it takes place in May, that would put it in the middle of the final phase of the GOP primary schedule: Nebraska and West Virginia vote on May 10, Oregon on May 17, and Washington state on May 24. Then on June 7, the biggest prize of all: the California primary (with 172 delegates at stake). New Jersey, Montana, New Mexico and South Dakota vote the same day.

While it is unclear how long the trial over Trump University will take, both sides have submitted lengthy witness lists: 72 individuals have been identified as prospective witnesses by the two sides. The case shows little sign of being settled. Trump just last December hired Petrocelli, a master litigator, and he recently identified 965 trial exhibits he expects to use at trial, including PowerPoint presentations, course curriculums, emails, letters, videos and other material. Picking jurors who have neutral views on Trump could present another time-consuming hurdle.

Somehow this lawsuit will only endear him to his supporters.

One of two things is going on here. Either Hillary has so much political power that she will be able to permanently thwart a situation that would obviously be investigated if any person with less clout was accused, or she has political opponents who hope she wins the nomination because her chances at election could be destroyed if extremely damaging information is revealed at that point. We already know that she communicated top secret information over this private email account despite her consistent claims to the contrary. What if we learn that American lives were lost as a result, or that our enemies successfully hacked her server?

Every indication is that the GOPers are going to the polls in record numbers this cycle while the opposite is happening for the Dems. So the question is, will those who are going mostly because they want to avoid allowing Trump to become the nominee stop Trump so opposed to him that they will vote for Hillary instead? I'll bet that an awful lot of them would hold their noses and vote for Trump because one of the primary reasons they want to stop him is that they do not want Hillary. Based on what I saw last night I think he would put on one hell of a convention, and I feel certain that some people who have felt like they couldn't vote for him no matter what will see that and change their minds.

I remain very concerned about Trump's willingness (and even bragging about) his ability to change his positions to suit whatever his current purposes are, but I do believe he ultimately has the ability to accomplish some things that no other candidate could because he is not beholden to huge corporate donors. I absolutely love the pride and optimism he exudes for America. It is so incredibly refreshing to hear a leader talk like that after spending seven years listening to Obama apologize for this country's impact on the world.

And thus, a fantastic point is made.

Gonna need to sharpen the knives before I jump into politics.

I think what you're saying though is wholly correct-- the word choice I made was stupid. Housework is not sedentary-- I chose that word out of laziness, and it has the capacity to hurt.

Similarly, Kasich was lazy with his choice of words, and it also has the capacity to hurt. I'm 22 years old, and not yet a politician. We should all hold ourselves to a high standard, but him perhaps even higher.

exhausting hearing a president apologize for his country's impact on the world? HAHAHA!!!! What, is this somehow strengthening the Russians?

Please elaborate on this-- I haven't the slightest clue what you're talking about. Maybe I'll understand if you explain.

Growingly worried that Trump will steam-roll Hillary.

Bernie would massacre him tho.

Riddle me this: what happens if Clinton gets indicted for email(FBI also currently investigating)and Trump is found liable/guilty of fraud regarding the civil suit, in which he is listed as a witness, for Trump University?

Now I know I'm not the scholar you are, but could you let me know where the word "had" is in here? Thanks.

"I probably won my campaign thanks to the tons of female volunteers who, unfortunately, tended to live much more sedentary lifestyles back then-- meaning they were able to pour in more volunteer hours than the women of today can."

That would be your original statement that we're talking about here.

Maybe they spell it differently in Canada.

Honestly, who is really offended by what Kasich said?

It seems the women that populate this board, and not all of them are conservatives, seem to be bothered by it. In fact, it was your comments Dala that bothered them more.

Maybe part of the problem here is that we're fostering a society that wants to be offended by everything. We have colleges where students are asking professors to suspend classes/finals because of their emotions in regard to activism (Brown, if you wanna look it up). That's how today's kids are responding to adversity. By shutting down. That's a problem, and we're fostering it by being offended by everything that anybody says. It's ridiculous.

aaaaaaaannnddd here comes the obviously predictable slippery slope!!!

Honestly, who is really offended by what Kasich said?

Thousands.

Right, all 3 women on a Utah-based sports forum. Let's extrapolate this to the entire population, as an exercise of utter stupidity.

Right. And now we have Universities like Texas who are being instructed to make classes less inflammatory due to concealed carry now being allowed on campus. Care to complain about this too?

It has been a common theme throughout his presidency that Obama and his administration apologize to other nations for the role we've played in the world. I only read a portion of this article, but it appears to give some pretty good examples:
https://www.heritage.org/research/r...how-the-president-has-humiliated-a-superpower

There are many, many more examples. Upon her husbands election Michelle Obama said, "For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country." It has become abundantly obvious that the Obama's really have been as embarrassed of this country as those words indicate.

I am not saying that our country has never made a mistake, or that we shouldn't apologize when we do, but on balance I believe America is a great country, and that we have every right to be proud of the role our nation plays in the world.

And thus, a fantastic point is made.

Gonna need to sharpen the knives before I jump into politics.

I think the opposite needs to happen tbh. People need to stop rushing to "I'm offended" and take time to actually understand what is being said in full context.

Our society is encouraging this false indignation over everything. Overly sensitive.

Growingly convinced that Bernie stands no chance. In fact, the Democratic nomination is so rigged with Super Delegates that it would be nearly impossible for him to win the nomination, let alone win a general election. Even if Hillary's candidacy self-destructs before the convention I believe that another candidate will be put forth by the Dems to prevent Bernie from winning the nomination. If he did somehow make it to the general election, though, his chances would disappear once the majority of Americans understand how fundamentally he wants to change this country. Wall Street would literally invest billions to make sure this happened.
