What's new

Donald Trump

Isn't this a dangerous mindset though? You may not be as bad off, but there are certainly many that are, and in a democracy they still rely on your help in getting the representation they need.
I'm not saying to ignore the issues of the day. I want to do all I can to improve the world around me. My point is that I do not want to drown in fear and anger, and I want to appreciate all the wonderful things in life - like the Jazz win last night.

Joe, I'm not trying to be a dick here-- have you ever lived, or even gone on a trip outside of the US?

I'd rather live in my country than yours. 100 times over.
You're a lucky man. Everyone should be fortunate enough to live in a country they love.

Like you, I love my country.

JimLes' comment was odd any way you slice it, and that's what I was really responding to.

I suspect this political science professor will be proven right once again. Never heard of him, actually, but I've got to respect his track record on these predictions. When this happens, we will likely see a huge increase in the number of Americans leaving this nation for good. Jefferson said a properly functioning mass democracy(although voting rights were far from universal in his own day) required an educated electorate. Pretty sure he was not talking about college degrees. He was talking about the necessity of recognizing demagogues when they rear their ugly heads. Sadly, I am now convinced the majority of Americans are simply not intelligent enough to avoid electing a fascist as President.

A Trump victory looks inevitable to me as well. His enormous self-confidence seems to steam roll any problem, and it absolutely intimidates his competition. Jeb Bush was thought to be the clear front runner in the GOP. Trump set sites on him as the first target and annihilated him.

Trump has the amazing ability to make a huge misstatement (one so big it would kill any other candidacy), and then turn it to his advantage. He has a grasp of social media and media in general that is far beyond any of the other candidates, and that obviously matters. He turns haters to his advantage, he turns spending the least amount of money to his advantage, he turns the ads attacking him to his advantage, it goes on and on.

I fear Trump as president because he changes his position and tone whenever he feels like it. It is obvious that he will do this as president as well. The only thing that has me holding out hope is that he might actually have some core principles behind all of this (though I'm not certain), and if he does I cannot imagine a president who could be more effective at getting his agenda put into place as Trump.

Anybody who thinks Clinton or Sanders stands a chance against this guy is not paying attention to what he has accomplished so far. Nearly everyone thought his candidacy was a joke at first, but it has become crystal clear that this is no joke. He is spending the least of any republican candidate yet getting by far the biggest results. He's getting the most publicity by a huge margin. Something terrible about him would have to come out in order to stop this freight train, but even if it did there is still a very high likelihood that he would turn it to his advantage.

I have an employee that sees every issue as black and white with no gray area EVER. He believes that since the President has to be born in the United States, his spouse must be too and that the Constitution has to be amended to clearly state that. This was brought up because Trump's current spouse is an immigrant to our nation even though she is here legally. That is why he is convinced that Trump cannot legally be elected President this election. I took this job when my boss retired and inherited him as part of my staff, so no I did not hire him. He is a business professional with over 30 years business experience, a masters degree, and a CPA. I am speechless as to how someone with that level of education/experience can think that way. Do any of you also feel this way? Is this something that many Americans truly believe?

Trump's contention that Cruz may not be able to legally become president for citizenship reasons is stupid, but your employee's contention that Trump may not be able to legally become president for citizenship reasons is 100 times as stupid.

Dumbest thing I've heard of. I honestly don't care where our president was born. Just get the best guy/gal.

It seems like we all want tax reform, but what specifically does everybody want?

I don't mean generalities like higher taxes, lower taxes, but more specifics. Like, should we increase capital gains tax? Reduce estate tax? Mandatory sales tax across the nation? Etc etc.

Trump has horrible poll numbers with latinos. 7 out of 10 have a strong dislike and an extra 10% (so 8 out of 10) have a dislike how him.

If he has already convinced the other 2 to like him, I don't see how convincing some of the 8 is any more impossible.

I do. Considering those 2 out of 2 are the registered repubs. He will gift wrap the latino vote for the Ds. He already is.
