What's new

Donald Trump

Wonder if that is a tell on Trump's future VP pick. I saw an interview awhile back where Trump said he doesn't want anybody like him to be the VP, referring to political experience mainly I think but also his brashness. I like Trump alone, and kind of like Christie alone. But I don't think I like that pairing.

He'll pick a Latino VP, book it.

I really thought there was no way this *** clown could get the nomination.

I'm honestly horrified.

Unlike Joe Bagadonuts, I like the U.S. to show some humility. We aren't the superior race on planet earth, we are humans just like the people trying to eek out their short existence all over the planet.

I think another bully president is long term very very bad for us. One day the U.S. will not be the top dog and when that happens we are going to be treated the way we have treated the rest of the world. I wish we would have conducted ourselves, over the last century, in a way that wouldn't encourage retribution when that day comes. As it stands, I fear for future generations and what punishment they will suffer for being descended from dumb asses like us.

I hope I'm just blowing it out of proportion. Presidents don't necessarily matter. If he's elected I hope that's true.

Don't worry bro, if he's elected, I'll have a chat with our prime minister and maybe we can sort you out with an overthrow of your democratically elected government. You'll be fine.

....you really feel it needs explaining? Ok, here goes! When Muslim terrorists declare a "Holy Jihad" on the USA, then fly two jumbo jet planes into the Twin Towers, killing 2,500 civilians and bringing the USA economy to it's knees, you would have to at least hesitate a tad bit to elect to the highest political position in the country ANYBODY with ANY possible Muslim ties or connections...even if it only included a Muslim name, much less a dubious background linking said official to further Islamic loyalties, don't ya think? Or in basketball terms, let me illustrate it this way: If you want to play "team" ball with a lot of assists and minimal turnovers, you don't trade for or draft Allen Iverson, even though he becomes available at any price! Here's link for further observations and food for thought!

Again, not making or taking a political stand one way or another, it just wouldn't be that surprising, based on past American voter decisions, if Trump did get elected...and win in a landslide!

Thanks CJ, that was golden. I didn't expect you to own your ignorance like that.

Same here.

I'm a fan of politics in an analytical way, so to see his rise is kind of fascinating, and leaving any of my emotions out of it it does seem like he has a solid path to the White House, mostly because the Dem field is awful.

But good lord does it scare the hell out of me. An obnoxious asshat who was a ****ing reality show host might be the next POTUS. **** life.

Maybe Rubio has hit upon a solid anti-Trump strategy with the "con man" thing. Best case scenario is that Rubio, Cruz and Trump destroy one another and Kasich is never dragged into the gutter alongside them.

Apparently you've never been to the DMV, or to the IRS, or applied for a passport, or pulled a building permit, or filed a case in small claims court, or been to a post office, or visited a VA Hospital, or received a parking ticket, or ...

No but I can read and understand data.

Please point out to me where I've argued that government provision of services is in all cases high quality? That the DMV may not work well at times is irrelevant to the discussion, particularly when one has actual data one can use, as opposed to anecdotes.

I suppose, then, that if I pointed out anecdotes of poor efficiency and service delivery by certain private sector firms, you'd find that a compelling reason to conclude that the private sector is inherently inefficient. That is, at least, what the logic of your argument suggest.

Neither am I necessarily suggesting the US should move to a single payer system; what I want is a reasonable, rational policy debate about health care policy, which isn't possible given the current environment created by Republican dog whistle pandering to it's angry white person base.

This is by no means a political statement or endorsement of any kind, whatsoever! Just passing on an observation from a New York professor who also correctly predicted that the Jets would win Super Bowl III, and the Giants would upset the 18-0 Patriots!

The probability of a Trump win is “almost ‘take it to the bank,’ ” he said.....using his formula going back to 1912, it worked for every one — with the exception of 1960, when John F. Kennedy narrowly defeated Richard Nixon.

He's also predicts the following:
Trump vs. the Pope? Trump wins!
Trump vs. China? Trump wins!
Trump vs. Russia? Trump wins!
Trump vs. Golden State? Trump wins!
Trump vs. Ditka? .....Ditka wins!

Oh good f'n Lord. You're such a dumb ***.

How many predictions did he get wrong?

My concern was very poorly worded. It's not a question of Americans not being intelligent enough to avoid electing Trump. It's a question of not understanding history well enough to avoid it. Not enough people recognize a demagogue when they see one, or recognize how such individuals take advantage of people's fears and anxieties to get elected. It's the old adage about repeating history if you don't understand history. But it does seem to be a perfect storm favoring Trump in any event. And nobody seems to play people and play the media better then he does.

As a historical matter, I wonder how many populist demagogue's have actually turned out to be good leaders, who delivered on their promises, as opposed to using populist demagoguery as a means to manipulate the masses as a path to achieve and consolidate power.

Jesus Hortatio Christ, but you just keep upping the ante. You're setting the moron bar so high, I don't think anyone will ever be able to surmount it--aside from yourself, that is.

Can I ask why Americans are so incredibly committed to the constitution? Probably a difficult question. I mean i get that it's the founding document of your country, but it's over 200 years old. I'm not saying ya'll should scrap the whole thing, but why are people so outraged when anyone suggests doing something that might be even slightly 'unconstitutional'?

Because it was inspired by God, and was a necessary condition for God to re-establish his true Church on the earth, in a country where religious liberty could flourish.

Sorry, probably unnecessarily snarky, but something I heard many times in LDS meetings.

Is this still a common faith promoting rumor in current LDS culture?

Utah has allowed carry at universities in forever and there has yet to be a college shooting in Utah. All that despite the very high prescription drug use.

You "squints"/coddling example is absurd.

You've gone full hack.

I think that part of the concern about students packing heat is not solely that the guns may be used, but that they serve to intimidate and stifle discussion/disagreement.

To demonstrate, if somebody came into a restaurant with an M-16 slung over his shoulder and acted obnoxiously, would the fact that he's packing heat affect how you responded to his behavior? Would it affect how others did?

Now take that into a classroom. Is there a reasonable chance that the presence of firearms would change the nature of teacher-student and student-student interaction?

Interestingly, there's probably a large overlap between those who rail on political correctness as a means to stifle discussion/dissent and those who can't see how carrying firearms are likely to have the same corrosive effect on discussion/dissent (and vice versa).
