The official: Who can we get with around the 15th pick?

I actually like this draft from 10-20ish... there are some interesting players. I think people are down on this draft and I think it is because the 3-10ish guys aren't necessarily what you'd hope to come out with for a pick that high. Also, all the BS at LSU has thrown some cold water on Simmons.

Not sure why Cy hates Valentine but i think he'd make a ton of sense for us. Baldwin is interesting too, and if DL says he is the best player on the board when we pick then go for it, but I just don't know that we need to work on developing another point guard. I get the don't put all your eggs in the Exum basket but I'm not sure how that works practically.

I also really like Hield, but I think he'll be gone when we pick.

Hield should go top-8. He's going to be solid. I agree with you - there will be some misses but some definite hits in our range.

Valentine is so much fun to watch. He's like a super rich man's Kyle Anderson. I know people will claim slow-mo stinks but he's actually had some nice games for San Antonio this season. Valentine is far superior (and I consider Valentine more of a SG and not a SF like Anderson though Valentine could play small ball SF).

I feel like the Jazz are going to draft a SG or SF with our 1st round pick.

Kyle Anderson is considered a PF because he is too slow to be a SF. Just like Valentine is going to be too slow to be a SG.

Valentine's best feature is PNR play, but we already have 2 wings who can run the PNR at a high level. We need a fast penetrator, not a poor man's Hood w/ less athletic ability and size.

And all of our current problems happen when those two players are not on the floor. Valentine has the same standing reach as hood and rebounds a lot better and gets a ton more assists. Is shooting a higher percentage from 3 on more attempts. I don't think he'll be better than hood but I'll take the poor mans hood.

Morris almond put up numbers on a small school and couldn't pass. I don't think almond and Valentine are similar except for measurements.

Guys who are slow can still make it if they work on their lateral movement and don't need speed to score. I like Valentine because I think he has a low chance of not being an NBA player and could be the guy who everyone obviously misses on.

We're trading the pick. I guarantee it.

Depending on what we got I'd be upset... That's not consistent with bakking cakke and if I are going with a strategy stick to it. I also think some quality wings will come out of this draft around our range and it is a need right now and might be a more pressing need if Hayward bails.

lol so quick. props to you sir.

Interesting to see if Korkmaz will get a little more burn with Diebler injured. Osman has really been coming on the last few weeks though. Wonder if Cleveland would give his rights up for cheap since their salary numbers are so high.

So we keep constantly baking cakes?
Hayward leaves so we replace him with a pick. Favors may leave the year after so we use our lottery pick again. At some point, teams HAVE to get contributors. GS traded for vets. So did OKC. Very few teams use only picks to build their teams. Thus far, that's been DL's ONLY strategy (unless you count Booker as a big FA signing).

I'm the president of team win now so don't throw the bakking cakkes on me... I just think unless we got someone that fills a pretty big role and they are under contract for two plus years it wouldn't make sense. I don't see who that guy would be right now.

It would be inconsistent and terribly mistimed. 1st round picks are so valuable now because contract value to cap ratio is so good if you get a player. I just think it'd be wildly inconsistent to sit out FA last year and not make win now trades because we are focused on building and development. It would be paying a high price for something we could have had at a value and would tell me we don't know what the hell we are doing.

And that's why trading Hayward makes so much sense. Utah traded DWill and got a great young player in Favors + picks. Hood at a rookie contract is much more valuable than Hayward at $30M/per. Hayward has great value right now. The team acquiring him will get his Bird rights and can re-sign him. Let THEM overpay. Meanwhile, Utah gets some very good assets in return.

It's not that I don't like Gordon. I do. I'd like him to stay with Utah. But not at $30M/per. That will mean in '18/'19 one (or two) of the other other projected core members (Gobert, Favors, Hood and Exum) will need to go. Burks is gone, regardless. And it also means having the same kind of bench Utah has now: bargain basement vets, young guys on their rookie contracts and some DLeaguers.

Anyne else projected to go around that range. https://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2016/

I think I'm leaning towards Wayne Baldwin. He really fits the Jazz mold of what they have been wanting. Big PG with insane length who can probably guard 2-guards. Athletic, can shoot, and can make plays. He would be a much better backup than Neto/Mack and would offer us some insurance for Exum if he never pans out.

I'd be down for Baldwin. He's got crazy length, can shoot, and gets to the FT line.

Who seems to have the best court balance? Rumor has it that DL wants to make this team competitive with Ballet West.
I hear the pre-season schedule will now include a Swan Lake dance-off (well, renamed "Salt Lake", "Dancing with the Starzz" or "All That Jazz."). Those are the three working titles I've heard. They're still working through copyright issues on the latter two.

Unfortunately, it's starting to look more like a 10-12 pick than a 15 at this point. Maybe we get Peoltl from Utah and a guard in free-agency or from a trade (Whithey, Booker, Trey, Alec, cap space, draft picks).
