What's new

OFFICIAL Postseason race thread *Sticky*

Sure is fun to be talking about playoffs and playoff positioning again instead of what pick we could get and how many games we should be intentionally losing to help the tank.

Thanks rally churro
I'm still happy to talk about what pick we might get. How far do you think Luwawu will fall? Who will be the next Gobert / Hood (27/23) steal that DL pulls out of his *** to make the bench stronger next year? Jazz are still tanking. They should be up near the 4th seed (instead of 7th) but they took their time showing it.

Maybe it's not the churro. Maybe it's your high-tech rally board. Gives the players a goal and reminds them to just take it one game at a time. I could swear I've heard Lyles chant "42."

Seriously, though, I agree with your post. I was tired of looking at the mocks and wondering who would be there at 12-14. Now I can wonder what Burke + #16 will get the Jazz.
It's the girls. As soon as people started posting high quality pics in game threads, the Jazz started winning. Coincidence? I don't think so!

Jazz are still tanking.

Then they are doing a horrible job of it.
I think someone mentioned that the jazz are the 3rd best team in the league (warriors, hawks) in the last 10-15 games or something.

Some of the worst tanking I have ever seen tbh

Last night's recap. Jazz crushed the Lakers. I want to say that the Jazz crushed their spirit but the Lakers clearly have none. No fight, nothing. pathetic.

Grizz also lost! only 4 games down.

Unfortunately Mavs and Blazers won. So the Jazz worst night in this stretch was a 50/50 night. Out of the big 4 (Portland, Memphis, Dallas and Houston) Portland is the stiffest competition.

Tonight's games:

Rockets @ Cavs Stupid Cavs are resting James...Cavs can still win this.

Pretty tired of all this "resting guys" crap.

What's a "rally churro"? Or should I dare ask?

Article on every playoff team's worst case scenario match up for the first round. For the Warriors, they chose the Jazz.

There’s no one in the West who is going to give the Warriors legitimate trouble in the first round, but the Jazz have, at least, been a pesky team for the Warriors to handle, going back to Golden State’s tight 106-103 win in December. Utah’s style of play is an affront to the Warriors-led, high-tempo NBA revolution you’ve been reading so much about. The Jazz are the Velcro to the Warriors’ Slip-and-Slide. They average 91.1 possessions per 48 minutes, a full 8.5 possessions per 48 minutes fewer than the Warriors, and 1.9 possessions behind the next team on the list. The Jazz are young and feisty, but the Warriors’ bigger worry is just how slow Utah can play. They would not have much of a shot at a series victory, but the Jazz could at least ugly-up the games to give themselves a shot at lengthening the series.

This is why, at times, I think GS would be a better match up for us than the Spurs. Our style drastically clashes with their's, which gives us a chance to throw them off; an incredibly slow pace, grind it out style is how Memphis and Cleveland both took 2-1 series leads against GS last year.

The Spurs, on the other hand, do what the Jazz want to do, only they're better at it.

The article also argues that the Spurs are worst case scenario for the Jazz:

Oh, how the Spurs have abused the Jazz this season. They’ve not only won all three games against Utah, they’ve done so by an average margin of 26.7 points. Jazz star Gordon Hayward just does not seem to enjoy seeing Spurs star Kawhi Leonard, as Leonard and the Spurs have held Hayward to 12.7 points on 35.3 percent shooting and 20.5 percent 3-point shooting in 15 career games. In the three games this season, Leonard has outscored Hayward by a 66-33 margin. More generally, the Jazz remain, offensively, reliant on the pick-and-roll, and the Spurs are among the best in the league in guarding that play.

Oh, and Hayward can't do **** against Leonard. I don't want to go into a playoff series where our best player is completely neutered.

Hayward got to get over the Kahwi Leonard hump. A series would be good for him.

This playoff chase is causing some weird situation. Like, tonight, I'm cheering for a LeBron James-led team to win. I'll likely have to take a shower after the game to rid myself of the smell.

LeBron James is out tonight, so technically you're rooting for a Kyrie Irving-led team.
