Would you trade?

Huh? When Burks is healthy, he the most clutch player on the team. This has been discussed ad naseaum....

So shooting a couple shots at the end if games means so much now I gues . Burks has never had a positive real plus minus. He has never been efficient. He is young, and he could improve, and he also has been injured so we don't know what he is, but he has never contributed to a team that would have a winning record.

Yes it does. Did you not watch this past season and all of the close losses we suffered because of our inablility to make shots at the end of games? Making shots at the end of games matters.

I guess people are so pumped for our FA acquisition Alec Burks they think he is better than JJ Redick now lmao.

Not anywhere near as much as our inability to get a defensive stop in the last few mins. We made our fair share of late game baskets

Is JJ better than Burks? Absolutely. Is he becoming an UFA in 1 year? Also absolutely. So my answer is no.

People are reducing this discussion to who is the better player, which is a vast oversimplification. We have to be thinking long term. I don't see JJ maintaining quite this level of play for long (he's turning 32), and more importantly, I don't believe in our ability to retain him. He's an aging vet; he's not going to stay in Utah so he can NOT contend for a championship on what could possibly be his last contract.

Trading young pieces for 1 year rental vets is what you do when you're looking for that final piece to help push you over the top and win it all; it's not what you do immediately after not making the playoffs, unless you're a **** franchise like the Nets.

I love Reddick's game but I would not trade Alec for him. I still think Alec is Utah's best player, and probably the best contract. I realize this makes me seem delusional, but if Alec ever stays healthy for a couple years in a row, I believe my delusion will be explained and maybe justified. If he gets injured again and loses any confidence, I'll look even dumber.

Both teams would say no I think... Because of contract length and where they are I'm not sure this would make sense for either.

Great posts.
Reddick is quite a bit better than burks right now. If reddick was a 28 years old instead of 32 and we knew we would have reddick for the next three years then we would have to make the trade.
But when looking at age, contracts, and where each team is then it gets a little murky.

I would probably still do the trade anyway because right now reddick is fantastic and i would just have to hope we could re-sign him and that his level of play would remain pretty high for the next 3 or 4 years (since he is mainly a shooter and doesnt rely on his athleticism very much i think there is a good chance that reddick continues to be a good player for a while longer)... Plus the fact that burks has been hurt so much and even when healthy im not sure that he has a firm hold in a role with this jazz team. Reddick would fit in very nicely imo.
Very tough call.

How does Redick follow up a 5 point 2/10 shooting night in 25 minutes?? so far 2/11 with 5 points with just a few minutes left in the 4th..

He turns 32 in June.

I'd rather see what Burks can do with a full season next season and a healthy Exum....

I'm sure the clippers are dying to trade one of the most efficient shooters in the league for a guy who can't get on the court.

Wait, there are people who wouldn't trade Alec burks for jj? What world do I live in?

JJ is getting seriously paid after this season, and Utah is already looking at a situation where they can't afford to keep everyone.

If you believe Utah has a real shot at a ring this year, then it's worth the gamble. Otherwise you're giving away Burks to rent JJ for the rest of this season.

Lots of people in this thread who have a rude awakening coming when they realize where Utah is financially. Utah is looking at paying Hayward a true max contract and Hill won't come cheaply either. Gobert's contract kicks in as well.

This isn't a even a question of whether or not JJ would re-sign in Utah. We just flat out won't be able to pay him next year.
