It seems like somewhere along the way character, honor, morals, compassion, etc have become very unimportant in factoring into who leads our country.
Seems like what matters most is who has the most money, is the best liar, has the biggest ego, and who can best slander their opponent and the people of their opponents party.
This is what my book is about, in general. And not that I will necessarily finish it..
Remember, I'm not getting into any depth here, just tips of the waves.
The gist is that we typically have two basic types of candidates.
Career politicians
Successful entrepreneurs
I believe most of each grouping, for the most part, are well meaning.
The career politician. They have spent their careers networking. It's what they do. And they have a fantastic network of bright and accomplished people around them to show for it. If they want to get something done, they typically have the juice to do it, on at least some level. But their life has been spent networking from an ivory tower with their lives in a tax-payer bubble. In my opinion they really only know politics and what wealthy citizens within their circle feed them about the private sector (with that person's own agenda). They are robots wired with sound bites and for the most part unknowingly being led by the noses and being made puppets of...
So they can be well meaning, but without having ever dealt with the real issues in a eat-or-be-eaten capitalistic society they're destined to become frustrated with policy change, etc because they're the most ignorant one in the room. Before long they develop a "get mine" mentality stemming from pure frustration.
The entrepreneur comes on the scene with a holier than thou, anti-establishment, mentality hell-bent on "cleaning up" D.C. Of its crooked politicians and numb nuts. They're smart, they're savvy, and they don't need our money. They are doing this, sincerely in their own minds, the RIGHT way.
So they win office. Now they realize all the career entrepreneurialism has left them wise in the way of the world but without the political clout that had been gained by those that had spent a lifetime greasing the skids. The well meaning entrepreneur grows very tired and frustrated of having the ideas for successful change but not the political capital to get things done.
They grow tired and develop a "I'm gon get mine" mentality out of pure frustration.
It takes a special PERSON. A person that is cut from Presidential cloth.
Whether it be a career politician or aomeone from the private sector doesn't matter.
What matters when choosing a President is someone that recognizes and embraces their shortcomings. This person needs to show qualities of never giving up. Ever. Will not give into frustration but continue to seek what's best for America no matter how tired they become.
That person can't be labeled democrat or republican. Not entrepreneur or politician.
They need to carry labels such as a great dad, a devoted husband, a true friend, and an honorable man.
America used to care about those things. Long ago.
Somewhere along the way we've been numbed by a cancerous "live and let live" that's been taken out of context and we need to reenergize as a nation to demand a President be of a character we can be truly proud to call President.
A man who we can allow to mistakes because we trust him. Get the first part right and I will accept the chips as they fall.
