Following 2016 potential draftees

Here's a better video from Skal's pro-day:

Even if he turns out completely soft and never uses his mobility, he's still Channing Frye basically. He sure looks like he wants to play on the perimeter. Would like to see him do some dribbling drills, but that was a nice looking workout nonetheless.

Impressive workout by Skal. If he adds some more muscle here and there, I think he'll do quite well. I'm certain he'll go to the Magic at 11th.

It's weird. He has very impressive sky hooks over either shoulder, but because of weakness he has the ball stripped when making his move in the paint.

So he reverts back to his bread and butter (PnP). It's easy to give up down low when you hit every 15 footer you shoot.

He's one of the most gifted big man shooters I've ever seen at his experience level (has only actually played bb a couple years).

But he's so weak he gets pushed out of position by guards and the ball stripped of he hesitates at all.

Tough call.

If he develops a low dribble and drive, he could be almost unstoppable. He needs more lower-body strength and more ability to get low. His quickness--both feet and hands, his shooting touch and his timing are all more advanced than Maker, but Maker might have that warrior drive.

Yeah, some of his strength issue is conditioning. It's easy to see it was hard for him to stay in his low stance.

The fact that Thon Maker can handle the ball out on the floor, make passes off the dribble and also drive hard to the rim may make him a more impactful player in 5-on-5 situations than Skal, even though Skal is more skilled otherwise. The ability to move with the ball and make a play off the dribble out on the floor is critically important, and I haven't seen Skal really do that yet.

Skal looks like he'll move well off the ball and pick-and-pop all day, but he's limited if he can't put the ball on the deck. The thing that might make Thon Maker special is his handle and feel with the ball in his hands.

Why do you think Thon can do any of that?

Perfect form, great elevation, good arc. Easy to see why he shot 46% on mid range jumpers. He'd have that to fall back on if his inside game was ineffective against NBA defenders. Enough to warrant a 12th pick....it's tough

I've been down on Skal, for good reason, but there's something about starting from the point of being able to put the ball in the basket.

Dr. Jones what are your thoughts on the little guy that could Tyler Ulis? How will he transition to the NBA?

Obviously his ceiling is going to be limited but I like him and will root for him to prove people wrong.

Because handling, driving and passing is what he does. It's his finishing around the rim that's a bit raw. His footwork in the paint is pretty basic.

Against HS kids. He is playing against people like me from HS. If he tried any of those moves against pro players he is getting ripped or getting his shot blocked.

I just can't watch this video seriously. They honestly show a clip of KD bringing the ball up the court and launching a 3 then show Thon doing the same. This is a joke.

Yes, limited for sure.

He is the best bbIQ I've seen in maybe my lifetime at his age. No hyperbole.
He's incredible for the team chemistry and he knows how to have the coach's back when coach isn't around.

He's also a better shot than he's given credit for. Set UK's all-time assists record in his time, and never turns it over...

I would put him around 20 with an even mix of high floor and low ceiling.

Didn't mean to "like" that ********.

I remember watching The Under Armour HS game and Thon was completely invisible when he got on the court with other elite HS talent.
