Following 2016 potential draftees

You speak in massive hyperboles and hope to find your nut.

Yeah, it's so crazy to disagree with someone trying to compare Thon Maker to 3 guys who are considered the top defensive centers.

Thon is closer to Yi Jainlain than Rudy or DeAndre Jordan.

I didn't compare him to anyone, jack.

You don't remember who he was then. It's a pretty close comp. The hype is about the same also. Only difference is there was age question marks on Yi.

Okay, well agree to disagree. If Maker can play the 5, he becomes a compelling prospect. Jianlian was a semi-skilled, fairly slow, college-level PF who couldn't defend anything.

Yi was hyped as being very athletic, not a slow college level PF.

I'd imagine a lot of these plays are what you envision Thon doing in the NBA.

Is it a perfect comp? Of course not, but it is sure a hell of a lot closer than Rudy Gobert, DeAndre Jodran, or Hassan Whiteside. You should be embarrassed to suggest those.

Yi was also a better prospect than Thon IMO. He actually had some lower body mass and strength where Thon virtually has none.

You may as well be comparing Thon to Keith Van Horn. I don't usually say this, but lol.

Great post.

My counter is simple. A guy that is better than 7 feet tall, long, and can jump out of the gym (while also showing real promise with handles, passing, and shot) is worth a #1 in a weak draft.
I take him him high and start him off by breaking him down. Starting over. Teach him how to shift from his current mentality of an offensive-minded SF (lol) to a defensive minded C. Nail rim protection and rebounding then move out from there. make him earn offense.. starting at the rim and moving out from there.

The guy should be able to be a top defensive C in the league as a FLOOR. Srs.

Damn, what a floor.

Don't like the weak draft talk after listening to it here for years.
The 2013 draft was supposed to be the weakest ever. Yet the best player out of this draft looks to be better than the best player in the 2014 draft, which was called historic in terms of superstar talent level and depth.
2015 was talked about as rather average once again. But Towns, Porzingis already look like they're gonna develop into legit franchise player and future top5/10 players in the league with how basketball develops.

So much noise in footage, competition and data at such a young age. These highschool observers, college recruiters, they get it right only so often. Calipari recruits 5+ 5 star and a couple 4 star kids every year, knowing that half of them will disappoint and their actual career is most likely gonna be bench warmer/overseas star.

You gotta find someone you like and think he's worth giving a shot. And then you spend your effing draft pick on him.
It's individual cases and if you don't like anyone for various reasons, then try to make a trade with someone who likes their chances of drafting someone at that position.

With Maker there's a lot of polarizing and one sided coverage.
If what his camp states about his work ethic is true, then he's shown little improvement for the time spent in the gym. I'd give other kids the benefit of the doubt if I had to make a decision with a high pick.

I want thon maker.

Reminds me too much of the big ticket. Can't pass up on potential like that.

Are you suggesting Thon is going to be able to handle the ball in the open court on fastbreaks? I highly doubt this ever happens.
I saw shaq do this before. I think thon handles are better than shaq.

Yes, limited for sure.

He is the best bbIQ I've seen in maybe my lifetime at his age. No hyperbole.
He's incredible for the team chemistry and he knows how to have the coach's back when coach isn't around.

He's also a better shot than he's given credit for. Set UK's all-time assists record in his time, and never turns it over...

I would put him around 20 with an even mix of high floor and low ceiling.

it's pretty amazing a guy with his size/frame can even go around 20 considering Isaiah Thomas fell all the way to 60.

when I watch him I feel like he's a real student of the game. his decision making skills are undeniable and plays so unselfishly.

great skill set for a pure point guard and seems to have a mental toughness about him as well.
I have loved ullis long time.

Dude killed a chair in a workout. Thon hasn't done that. No comp./

Yeah but it was soft euro chair... I think from ikea. Had he gone at a hard American metal folding chair it would have been different. Have to factor in level of competition ya know

If Thon was half as good as some people here think he would be a top 8 pick at least, especially in this draft.
