note: this trade is conditional on Deandre Bembry being available with the 28th pick

Jazz trade: Next year's GS pick, plus cash
Jazz receive: 28th pick, PJ Tucker

why the Suns do it: salary relief; can take big swings towards some FA; already drafting 2 first rounders, rare for a team to keep all three draft picks from the first round; next year's draft class is supposed to be super deep or something, having the 30th pick is likely to bring in a better player for them than this year's 28th.
why the Jazz do it: PJ Tucker fills a huge positional need for us, Deandre Bembry is dope. We gotta add some vets and try and make the playoffs in order to keep Hayward in Utah.

Pretty unsexy trade, but do y'alls pull the trigger? I know we snagged the Rudy Gobert 27th pick for just cash, so I'm not sure this pick will have a particularly large amount of value, but it's hard finding a better player with respect to salary and attitude at the 3/4 than Tucker, especially accepting the role off the bench.

alternatively we could trade down from 12 to 13 and receive PJ Tucker if we knew the Suns wanted someone different than we did. That might be the more seamless trade, but that would also leave Dal w/o Deandre Bembry :'(

I'd do it. We don't lose much and I trust DLs ability to draft. Especially late in the first round. Hood and Gobert anyone? I do not make it conditional on Bembry, I leave that choice up to DL.

I say yes.

Having said that I'd prefer Dudley tbh. He fits our needs better IMO.

Dudley addresses the needs for 3s and team morale after Booker leaves. Tucker is the better defender though (can 100% guard the 3 and 4), and could definitely start for stretches if a player like Hayward went down with an injury.

I'd be happy with either player, though Dudley may be lost on a bidding war to another team. Given that the draft goes down before free agency, do you just skip out on the trade and hope we sign Dudley? Could be risky. This is a huge year to build depth for Gordon.

I'd do it but only if Bembry is off the board.... Kidding.

There is some value to drafting a player this year in hopes he can contribute, even if just a rotational guy, in two or three years on the cheap when we have a cash crunch.

I think both teams would probably do this deal... The GS pick being unprotected may have more value than this but there is also very little chance it is anything better than the 25th or so pick.

By this logic why not simply buy a draft pick in the 20's for three mill?

You can do what you want with the OKC pick, but keep your hands off the GS pick. Voodoo magic will help the Jazz strike gold.

Bookers defense seems highly overrated in this post.

Trading unprotected pick in one of the most loaded drafts is probably not wise. If you want to trade the OKC pick, it's more reasonable.

I agree about trading picks that are unprotected but the OKC pick could be better if KD leaves OKC. Personally, I would give up our pick because we are making the playoffs next year.. Yo gotta believe..

It's lotto protected bro.

Yeah, the OKC pick or one of our own protected are fair game in trades, but you never give up unprotected picks under the assumption that they won't be worth anything. The trade value of the GS pick vs the potential to get bit in the *** makes that pick untradable.

Fix the pick trade (GS for OKC) and yes I do this trade all day long.

We don't really lose anything of consequence and pick up two potential contributors and our original pick at 12. Can't ask for too much more than that.

I'm all on board w/ the idea of improving perimeter defense. I've been suggesting PJ Tucker on this squad for a few years now. To me it seems like DL is trying to find a PJ Tucker with all these 10-days and Summer League players he is bringing in which isn't a bad strategy at all. Elijah was an incredible defender and a huge part of the insane defensive run after All-Star 2015 but he just could not hit a shot on the other end. Chris Johnson had his moments but just doesn't have the talent to be a contributor. DL will keep trying.

i honestly thought the OKC pick is more valuable. Fine with trading that one instead.

Yeah I'm beginning to side with y'all. I think they still do it too. PJ would be dope.
