Following 2016 potential draftees

According to Chad Ford's latest big board, here are all of the players the Jazz have interest in:

Dejounte Murray, Jakob Poeltl, Skal Labissiere, Furkan Korkmaz, and Malachi Richardson.

The ceiling for Malik Beasley, Wade Baldwin, Denzel Valentine, and DeAdndre Bembry is the Jazz at #12.

Please Baldwin, please.

I don't think the Jazz are nearly as secretive/manipulative as people around here say. There were rumors that we really liked both Exum and Lyles before drafting them. There was also word before the 2013 draft that the Jazz thought there was a foreign prospect that was a major sleeper (Gobert). Peeks also received info before the 2013 draft that we were going to aggressively try to trade up and that the target was Burke.

My guess is we end up drafting one of the players Ford listed.

Yeah pretty much this. Last year he had Lyles pegged to us all throughout June. The year before he said the Jazz would take Exum at #5 if he was there (which nobody thought he would) and I even remember making a thread about it.

At this point I'm leaning towards Dejounte Murray or Wade Baldwin. Jakob Poeltl would be the choice for me if he is there though.

I'm liking Korkmaz more.

He's got good size and athletic ability, so he's not a lost cause on the defensive end. He can shoot it from deep (still think his shot is a bit weird though), he's hella young, and he can create (can't stress how important that is).

If we stay at 12 and no one unexpectedly falls to us, I'd take Dejounte, Malachi, or Furkan.

I think when Korkmaz fills out physically, he'll probably end up a bigger wing (SF). But he's got the shooting stroke, length and baseline-to-baseline athleticism to be an effective player. Plus, he can pass and handle a bit. I think he's a nice pick at 12.

I really think the Jazz's interest in Dejounte Murray is just noise. He's a project, and if it pays off in a few years, what have you got? His ceiling isn't all that high to me.

Regarding Skal, even if he turns out to be a wuss, he's still Channing Frye with a mid-range game and a bit of help defense. That's still a valuable player.

Wait, worst case for Skal is a 40% 3pt shooter with a mid range game who can block a few shots? Trade up to 3 and take him!

I'm all good with Thon, Skal, Baldwin, Luwawu, Poeltl, Sabonis which are all within our range. Valentine, Korkmaz and Davis are pretty much meh. I'd like to see the Jazz draft a guy that'll bring excitement.

That's his worst case? He couldn't even do that in college against people close to his own age.

He blocked shots and hit from mid-range in the second half of the season.
His blocks per 40 min were 4.2, which is high.
His 2-pt shooting percentage was 52%, which isn't bad for a guy who shies away from the paint.
The 3pt range is a recent development.

Is he consistent? Hell no. Are there concerns? Sure. But at 12 in this draft, he's a good pick, imo.

Why take him at 12 when there are players who actually played better, with similar ceilings? Hell, I'd take Stephen Zimmerman over Skal at this point.

Go ahead and look at his per 40, it doesn't mean ****. You know what does? In a season where Kentucky desperately needed any sort of inside presence, Skal, with all of his talents and skills, couldn't get more than 15 mpg. At the end of the season, during the conference tournament, he had 30 minutes total. He did play more in the NCAAT, but when matched up against a big guy with talent (Thomas Bryant) he couldn't do anything. Bryant meanwhile had one of the best games of his year.

Nobody at 12 has similar ceiling to Skal. You can have worries about his floor and bust-potential, but his ceiling at the level of a top 3 pick.

Pah. The chances Skal becomes a starter is like 5%.

I'm sure once you give a soft unmotivated guy millions of dollars in guaranteed money that he'll bust his ***.

The soft and unmotivated parts are the knocks on him right?
