What's new

First George Hill, now Solomon?

Wouldn't be against this move to acquire a decent 3 and D player, it could increase our bench production and makes our team very versatile. Thoughts?

The FO must see something that I haven't seen - generally speaking he's a pretty mediocre player.

I think I'd rather have Ingles - and that's not a glowing endorsement of Joe either.

He might be the D part, hasn't really been the 3 part except for a couple months after the AS break last year.

This is a spot-on assesment. He'll sign here for $12 mil/per, find his way to the end of the bench before the All Star break, and his contract will be an anchor around the neck of a team that is very close to contending for a 4 seed and higher in the next few years, IMO.

If he signs with us, I hope I'm as wrong about him as I was Trey Lyles because at this point, I don't see anything redeemable about Hill's skillset when you factor in his price tag.

No thanks.

Paying him 12 million dollars wouldn't handicap us from doing anything.

Not this year it wouldn't. Teams near the tax threshold and teams trying to clear cap to make a signing think this idea is hilarious.

Besides, we have A LOT more reason to believe that he's a fringe NBA player than that he's a legit one.

2 things:

In the here and now it doesn't but when you start looking at who needs to be re-upped on this roster in the next few seasons and the fact that Utah's still going to need to overpay a few FA's to appease Gordon and further the "win now" mentality, cap space can be gone before you know it, even in this world of an ever growing cap.

And....

Even with the cap not being a problem, paying a guy $12 mil/per to give you what Joe Ingles gives you is not good business. I don't have a problem overpaying for FA's. I'd just like to see them try to overpay for guys with a higher ceiling than Hill.

One year sure second year not so much. I don't see us exceeding the cap the next few years so let's say we signe Hill to 3 years at 12 per... Next year we either let George Hill walk, send out Burks, or try to move S. Hill if you can. The cap will contract in two years slightly and the deals this year will be overpriced based on the fact of all the space hitting at the same time.

I'd rather be on the other side of this... In a year or at the trade deadline some of these signings won't be looking so hot... Make a deal then and receive assets for it. I'd at least like to see who is healthy and how our rotation shakes out.

We are already adding 3 rotation players... Burks, Exum, and Hill. Subtracting one in Booker. Neto and withey have some certainty to them now. This is the time to bake soup and use the last roster spots on second round undrafted guys or potentially undervalued dudes because they are in spots where teams don't have a role for them.

If you think the Jazz are going to handicap themselves just to sign S.Hill, you are crazy. I'm sure whatever number they offer him they will have plan on how to manage the cap and keep the team together.

And we all saw what happens when you assume "Why add a guy if we dont have a significant role for him" turns out being. It turns out being "why the **** didnt you sign anyone good when you could have easily signed someone good, people are injured and we are playing Chris Johnson and Joe Ingles way too many minutes".

I wouldn't do more than a Rondo deal for anything of this caliber. One year, and only that if he is the best available.

Hell, I'd rather pump the PR machine by being not only the first NBA team to sign some WNBA player and also to a largish 1 year contract. I think we are passed the time when the press would go nuts but it would still garner some national attention.

Anything more than a year has potential to handicap us... Getting any of these guys requires more than a one year deal... Some people seem to think its a no brainer. I don't mind us being in the rumors and having interest.

I especially would love to see us bid these guys up for teams like New Orleans, Sacramento, and Porty who have also been rumored to have interest.

Hill does have a skill that we don't have right now. He can physically matchup with big wings to save wear and tear on Gordon. Offensively he would just be okay but it all depends on price.

Last year Booker had to do this sometimes, but Booker's offense was so bad for our spacing.

utah tradition. keep similar names. burks burke. now hill hill lol
