I know the exact bridge I think. I could see how that would happen. So unfortunate. Horrible horrible situation.Provo, right below the Deer Creek dam
Can you guys start a different thread for depressing ****.
Man..
Not to be insensitive or anything.
Haha...
I get what you're saying, but on the other hand, the 'Official Life Thread' should encompass all facets of 'life' should it not?!?!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's only one in that area.I know the exact bridge I think. I could see how that would happen. So unfortunate. Horrible horrible situation.

Have you guys read about those people who swear by having multiple income streams? Like the guy who wrote the book "The Four Hour Workweek" or those goons who talk about how they have 15 income streams so if they lose one they don't worry about it much?
Been thinking about that a lot lately. I am planning on starting a few different things this september, as soon as my season up here in Jackson Hole is done. I am hoping to basically replace my current income by committee. Looking forward to the flexibility and hopefully the chance to make a little more money.
The problem with this thinking is that how valuable are you in each stream? If you are making $50/hr in one line of work, does it make sense to start up another line at $20/hr? Or work more hours in your current stream?
For example, I have an uncle is has multiple streams of income. He has a fireworks stand, he sells pizza at fairs, he dabbles in this and that. He makes $1000 profit for a week at a fair...but his hourly wage comes out to $11/hr. That's a hella lot of hard work for $11/hr.
BUT, if you are only making $11/hr, then it's a GREAT idea.

That is a good point, I have thought about that a bit. I guess the point I would make is that if its not worth it to do one of them, I can just discontinue that activity and get another going.
I have been doing a bit of this the last few years, between my day job, flipping homes, and some side work. I haven't felt ready to quit my day job just yet though, so that is kind of the next leap.
The other thing is that I need to move from a mindset of money coming in bi weekly to a mindset of budgeting the money that comes in a few times a year in big chunks sometimes, with small supplemental income weekly or so.
You have to pay taxes on your profits from the flips, right?
The first one I did not because it was my primary residence. The one I am currently doing, yes, as I will never live in it. If I lived in it for a couple years, I would pay no taxes.
^
You guys have an awful take on taxation. Better get pro advice. Way bad.
