Joe Johnson Coming to Utah

Could him and lyles play against bench bigs? I like him but I don't think we need another 5. He gives us some versatility we still need.
He's not a 5.

What position do we need most of all? A guy who can play some 3 or 4 and shoot and defend? If so, who is that guy?

Jones. Terrence Jones.

I have liked Jones since the draft. Though the question is does Jones see himself as a bench guy long term? Because that would probably be his role here permanently.

Perfectly fine being second unit. Confirmed.

Terrence Jones blows.

So does your mom. But Jones is good at basketball.

He should SRSLY be worth a look.

And, as a bonus, he's a friend.. and will talk to me about neat stuff.

Yamers is good. He'll come around.

Completely off topic, but has anybody else noticed NBA players don't get fat anymore?

Back in the day, you had guys like Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker who were skinny and got fat. Oliver Miller and Tractor Traylor who were kinda fat and ate themselves out of thr league.

That doesn't seem happen these days. Am I forgetting some guys?

Paul Pierce kind of.

He looked bad and tentative at the end of the year. Must have been because of his nerve injury? He's gonna get one of those underpaid contracts for the next two years from someone.

Boris Diaw. Jared Sullinger

Big Baby? He's gotten fatter and fatter IIRC ....

I think we have that guy in Hayward, johnson, and to a lesser extent, ingles and lyles.

Terrence Jones averaged around 12 and 5 in his second and third seasons.
Also about 1.5 blks.
Career 51% shooter is pretty good.

Fantastic skills for a 6'9 255lb guy.

Upside and cheap.

To my mind, its hard to see him as a fit unless he can play some small-ball 5.

Any idea why he dropped off such a cliff last two years? Injuries hurt I'm sure -- have they been long-term problems? Is it more a case of complete loss of confidence? Clearly the coaches lost confidence in him. If it's a confidence issue, I'm not sure the Jazz are the best situation for that given that this year seems to be mostly winning now. Perhaps the Nets or some other team where he can get more playing time?

Yeah I can see your point. But I think we could add front court depth and still keep all four PG's. Maybe something like...

Exum/Hill/Mack/Neto
Hood/Burks
Hayward/J Johnson/Ingles
Favors/Lyles/Bolomboy
Gobert/Veteran UFA or pickup via trade/Either Withey or Pleiss

So SCS a answered the "what position left to improve" question. It is a matter of injury insurance. Is withy better than any attainable big? There are ample 1s, 2s,3s,(the list of ones has guys who can play wing). But 4 and 5 are still weak on depth. Bolomboy is, even if keeper, a rook and will not even able to fill in this year as rotation player in the event of injury. And I think pleiss will never be good enough. Withy is a useful rotation guy IMO. Pleiss is worth as much as Burke... So you target one more big and drop pleiss regardless. If a big is not available, you sign any another asset who is playable or tradable for that big. But the team is constituted well enough to stand pat if legit option is NOT available.

He's very strong. If he can play the 3/4 in a big lineup, then I would assume he could play the 5 in small ball..
It was 100% injuries and then he didn't have the time to earn his minutes back after he had mended.

Again, I think we could get him for a ham sandwich and he has reaal upside. Think of it as merely a flier.

I think it's a no-brainer if the terms are as generous for the jazz as you're suggesting.

2-year deal, with a team option for a third. Average salary is.....? Care to put a number on it? 8?

DX's pre-draft analysis of T. Jones spoke of bad body language, pouting when things didn't go well, being content to drift in games, etc.

From an outsider's perspective it looks like this is part of what's been going on in Houston. Obviously I don't know any of the details, but if these are even much of possibilities with him, maybe it's best for Jazz to look elsewhere.

Nothing to that. He won a national championship at Kentucky and people started saying that then. Worst thing he did was pout about calls... but he's no malcontent and teammates LOVED him.

I believe he can be had for half that. Maybe less.
