It does help the Jazz. Depth, a very good passing big, another vet who has extensive playoff experience.

The league is flush with teams with cap space and picks are more valuable than ever. The Jazz got a real NBA player for a guy that will probably never don a jersey. Cheer up. The Jazz were probably awarded this deal because of being somewhat in with the Spurs as well.

This does feel like a meh trade I probably wouldn't have made, but you know, what are you gonna do. Doesn't hurt or help that much. Hanlan was never gonna play for us, but watch him become good in SA now.

Our biggest need at this point was a stretch-big and we just got one for peanuts. Veteran, championship experience, and played for Pop. Not sure what else you could want.
