Interesting. Unlike the people who you are apparently so concerned about I have figured out a way to vote in every single election since I turned 18.Watching Boris and Joe post is like watching a rerun of the movie Dumb and Dumber.
This has been discussed. Apparently it's not fair (though none of the people who think Republicans are trying to disenfranchise voters want to explain why).
You claim that every republican is against this and then I'm supposed to come up with a list of names? I think it's your job to support your statements.
It appears to me that any citizen who wants to vote can vote.
You may see it as a strawman for me to suggest you're trying to make their vote mandatory, but to me it appears that the democratic
establishment cares more about the votes of the supposedly disenfranchised than the disenfranchised do.
Otherwise they would vote.
I have a feeling that if we did make it a holiday then people like you would be complaining that the poorest people are the most likely to have to work on the newly established holiday.
But I don't blame you for wanting to compel these people to vote because I agree that they are likely to think that liberal programs will be helpful to them. I know you won't agree with me on this, but I think the evidence shows otherwise.
Obama has voiced support for a voting day holiday and therefore every republican is against it? You know that even without a vote? If there is so much support on the Dem side then why no vote? You also made a statement exclaiming doubt-- here's my case: if Republicans weren't against it, it would have already passed after the president & the Democratic party voiced their support on it. So clearly it wouldnt get past the Republicans which is why it hasn't gone down already. There's my logical deduction. Now, please mention some republican elected representatives who side with Obama on the importance of this holiday.
It appears to me, according to the media exposure I receive, that Americans are primarily stupid. Perspectives can be misleading, particularly when espousing them from positions of privilege.
Umm how about letting the disenfranchised speak for themselves instead of making extrapolations on populations you don't understand or know.
Again, statements like these show that you really don't know what you're talking about. A quick google search will help you. Pull down the blinders. It's really really childish to assume that everything Republican is good, and everything Democrat is bad. The opposite is true, Trump is to the left of Hillary for trade & foreign policy
So then you'd have to find a way to stop that, because employers can very much hold poor employees hostage like that.
I would want them to vote even if they voted Republican. Poor lower class white people vote Republican ALL the ****ing time-- and I'd die for their right to vote. See, you construct this agenda in your head, and you slant everything people say before even hearing the words come out of their mouth. It's only the major POC groups among lower classes that tend to flock to Democratic candidates. Expanding voting rights to the lower classes isn't partisan, it's a foundation of democracy. Any argument that you propose suggesting otherwise is fascist. Plain and simple.

Again, I ask you-- what's the problem with making Election Day a national holiday? Since when is more democracy a bad thing?

I think we already have enough holidays and don't see any reason for a voting holiday. Voting does not take an entire day. It only takes a few hours (very worst case scenario) and the polls are open for most of the day. In addition there is always voting by mail. I've voted in elections where I was out of the country. It's not hard to vote if it's something you care about. Next you will say they need holidays for all of the primaries and any special elections. It will never end. I don't believe that anybody who wants to vote is currently being prevented from voting. If you can show me that they are then maybe I will have to rethink things. Choosing not to vote is not the same as being prevented from voting.
"Here's a ballot. Mail it in at your convenience."So if you were in congress, and Bernie dropped another Democracy Day bill on your desk: One day holiday, making sure that working class people working 18 hours a day trying to overcome starvation wages (and avoiding getting fired). No strings attached, just one day holiday. Hell, make it on a Saturday or Sunday too.
Do you say yes, or no? And pretend I'm one of your working class constituents & tell me why you don't support making a single day a national holiday.

I thought it was going to be something about people who are working 33 hours a day but are still so poor they don't have enough moisture on their tongue to lick a stamp. You aready know response. "Me me me me me! Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme! To lazy to try! Gimme gimme gimme!"

You're Canadian so who give a rat's *** what you think about American political procedure?
Where in the US can you mail in a non-absentee ballot?
You can definitely vote by mail in Utah because I've done it. The only requirement is that you're a registered voter. If you're not allowed to do it in other states I was unaware of that.Where in the US can you mail in a non-absentee ballot?
Spills it*grabs popcorn*
Spills it
You're wrong. You and I obviously don't agree on the solutions to most of the world's problems, but the fact that we don't see eye to eye doesn't mean that I don't care. I want everyone to be successful. I believe that one important step is for people to take personal responsibility. With regard to voting, the bar they must meet is already set very low. There's absolutely no need for a national holiday. It's very obvious that you don't give a **** about the disprivileged & have a very Calvinist perception of their misfortune. Nothing i say here, or no amount of objective evidence will change that
