What Package of Assets/Players, If Any, Would You Trade for Westbrook?

I'm surprised we are taking Westbrook. Its obvious we are pushing forward with what we have right now. If we made any changes, I think it's at the deadline. On paper, we are set.

I'm not sold on Westbrook anyway. He will hit his Iverson wall in a few years and won't be able to rely on that elite athleticism anymore. He's a star which we might not have currently, but I think our window is open longer than his.

If they wanted Gobert and Hood I would not include any first round picks. Gobert is a top 3 DPOY canidate and Hood is already an above average starter with even more potential. Both are <25 years of age.

I don't think they would value Gobert quite as highly as they already have Adams, who they probably picture playing that Gobert type of role going forward. What they would really want is Hayward, to fill the small forward spot.

But I'm of the opinion that Westbrook would never stick around here when free agency hits, so I wouldn't bother offering up anything.

They would not want Hayward. They would be going full rebuild

Part 2 of the question: What do you think Boston would offer? What do you think LA would offer?

I read reports that LA doesnt want to trade, thinking they can sign him, but LA FO has clearly been delusional about these things in years past and I bet the succumb to the pressure of actually getting a star. If they lose him to Boston, no way they sign him.

I do not agree. I think there's a good chance he signs with the Lakers, regardless. Lakers won't give up anything for him, and they shouldn't. Ainge will trade mostly picks and maybe a couple young players. He can't gut the team of players, or it's pointless.

I would be very hesitant to trade for him to Utah, as I believe he would bolt. No way would I give up Rudy.

The Lakers have been saying they will sign X top FA for the past 3-4 years and have struck out repeatedly.

I think Westbrook is going to a team that can compete, not the Lakers (at least if he doesnt get anyone to go with him).

Russell Westbrook is the type of player that would instantly catapult us into championship contenders.

OKC would almost certainly ask for Dante Exum, IMO.

The Lakers have been striking out largely because nobody wanted to play with Kobe at that point in his career. Just because nobody jumped aboard this year, doesn't mean it won't happen sooner than later. I'll just go ahead and predict Westbrook and Cousins sign there next year.

That would be a must watch combination.

I actually would like to see Westbrook traded for Ben Simmons. I think it would be very amusing to see Westbrook average something like 38-9-9 (alongside a FG% of .340 and 4.7 TOs/g), while leading the Sixers to a 22-60 record; but I've been told I have a dark sense of humor.

Are any of those players going to be better than Westbrook? Did they just sign a 30 year old center to a max contract? Do they want to try and convince another top tier FA to sign with them in 2017? I think those answers are : Most likely not, yes, and yes. I think they want to win now so they do what they have to to get Westbrook.

You might be right though. They might get away with Jaylen Brown, 2018, and Marcus Smart (or something along those lines). It all depends on what else is being offered. From what I read the Thunder want to get a deal done and it makes most sense to do it ASAP so they can tank the full year and get ahead (or behind) the pack.

The issue is giving up that pick for a guy who may not re-sign. That is going to be a huge risk for a guy who appears to be sort of temperamental.

Agreed. Get a young defensive stalwart in Smart, a potential stud (chances are he won't be, but I think he could) wing in Brown, the 2018 1st, and a couple 2nds. To me, that's much better than the Randle, Russell garbage with worse picks LA could offer. And that Brooklyn pick would be HUGE. They could tank right like you said, have a top 5 pick this coming draft maybe, and then two other very high 1sts with their own and the Brooklyn (maybe two top 5?) pick in 2018. That rebuild could be swift and very productive.

At the same time, if he ****s Boston, they really didn't sell the farm and screw themselves too badly. Sure they lose Brown but Smart has been a bench player anyway and at least they'd still have the more immediate 2017 Brooklyn 1st.

It's like we talked about in that other thread... If I knew he would sign here then I agree with you. If not then I wouldn't give up Gobert and hood for a 1 year rental.

Westbrook
Burks
Hayward
Lyles
Favors

That would be a fun lineup.
Hell yes it would be fun. One thing about westbrook.... Despite his detractors and his flaws, he is extremely fun to watch play. Makes amazing plays every game. Gives great effort. Constantly seems to be about to take over a game single handedly. And he cares. Maybe too much.
That lineup would be very very hard to defend and so so entertaining.

Westbrook is a top 5 player. I'd give up any two players for him IF you knew he was going to resign here.

The problem is, he isn't going to extend anywhere. He'd be crazy to do so. He'd lose too much money. He will be a FA next summer. And I'd be SHOCKED if he wasn't wearing Gold and Purple.

Oh, and the Jazz think they already have Westbrook on the roster.

Westbrook is a once-in-a-generation player, i'll trade my whole team + 1st round for next 3 years for him. And you know he's never going to take a night off and always ready to compete. He's producing stats that are comparable to Magic Johnson and other Hall of Famers, let that sink in a bit.

People were saying that Westbrook is holding Durant back, in my honest opinion, Durant is holding Westbrook back - we might actually see a player average a triple double in a season. And Thunder is still going to be very good.
