I told you we need to bolster military efforts world wide. That includes especially are ally Turkey. I feel so bad for there people. I say NATO trains an sends 20,000 more security forces to Incirlick Hava Ussu an expands it from 3320 acres to 8,000.

We can prevent these attacks if we have the political will.

I'll be honest, I've studied Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan far more than turkey.

So my history is hazy.

What's this about? Does the military feel like the civilian government is going too soft on the Kurds? On Syria? Do they want to go to war against Russia? What's this all about?

Military Coup aren't fun... trust me I know cos I went through one of these a couple years ago in the country of my birth (better not say it out loud here),...

But I'd have to say that since then it's been 2 years, and the military government has done a GREAT job of tackling widespread corruption at almost every level and returned the country to a somewhat peaceful state...

So I guess it's not always ALL bad.

This is crazy. Reports of explosions, gunfire, fighter jets above Ankara, military deployments in several cities...

Keep in mind that other NATO countries have armed forces in Turkey. America, Spain, Germany and Belgium I believe. They are probably in high alert lock down mode I'd assume.

Spain is willing to send troops to Syria "if needed" yes, unfortunately. We still have a provisional government and a 3rd run for elections could be on the way, ugh...

Sorry, I meant Turkey. Forces in Turkey. Edited the OP.

All airports are now closed, run by citizens on ATMs and it appears that the military has taken over a state TV channel.

From what I understand, which is very little, away from it. Military is pretty secular, Erdogan was going more towards Sharia. Lots of other people here know more than me though.

This.

For what it's worth, American news agencies claimed that Erdogan was moving towards a Putlin like Islamic dictatorship. The military, again, according to Americans news outlets, wants a secular Turkey.
