What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

He attended Prime Prep Academy. A "known" diploma mill and a school the NCAA was all over.
Now defunct. Almost no chance he could prove the required classes and grades. Most big time coaches wouldn't touch a recruit from there.

Ahhhhh thanks I didnt know. Did he pass the sat or act?

Also what's the point with someone skipping NCAA/failing to meet NCAA requirements and then going to Australia? Is he from there? Afaik the league over there has very little exposure and quality of play. Are they just trying to develop Australian mid tier talent and adding a couple imports?

This is one big concern for ferguson. You can't be stupid and play. The jazz have a complex offense and complex defensive rotations.

You can't just stand around figuring out where you ate suppose to be.

I am primarily looking for a replacement for burks so maybe he will do.

I also like Grayson Allen and Jaron blossomgame.

Do you want to live in Australia or China?

Do you want to go to a league where you can play, or a league where you sit on the bench?

Your HS reputation gets you drafted, not what you do overseas. Look at Jennings and Mudiay.

I feel like this argument is very incomplete. Mudiay was in China. He was hurt there, and even when he played the Chinese team was unhappy. So I'm not sure with their import restrictions that we'll see that experiment again so soon.
There's the D-League where he'd actually work out for a coaching staff that's in touch with a real NBA team. What speaks against that other than the couple thousand you make less in the first year, or unless you have a really toxic personality that you don't want your client to display when you're the agent.
Jennings situation in Italy wasn't really thought through, because he went to a top team that had completely unrealistic expectations from an 18 year old who didn't bring size, strength or on court maturity to compensate for the lack of age/experience. There are better leagues and places that specialize on player development in Europe, and I'm sure they'd do it when a max 500k buyout is attached.
Australia takes away the language barrier and a part of the cultural differences on paper. So in these terms it makes sense. But the level of competition. Idk... GMs will see the high school prospect and I don't know if you want that spot in a draft that's projected to be as deep as 2017 is at the top.

Its higher competition than college. He will be fine. It really doesnt matter. He could sit out and do nothing and still be a lottery pick.

Glancing over Australian rosters on realgm, I'm not sure how high that quality is. Could be below high major conference finals quality

OK. Even if that was true most college teams aren't that good.

But consider the fact that on a high major team there's usually not more than 5-6 future pros and a couple benchwarmers. The Australian rosters are going to be 10 deep.
I'm not convinced that Australia is going to develop the stock based on what I'm reading. Also keep in mind that if he's being picked outside the top20 there are good chances that D-League and practice participation are going to be the highlights for that player. Teams in that range are usually good and try to get better unless they trade their picks away.

Any of y'all know particulars about Canadian import Emmanuel Akot who plays at Wasatch Academy??

There appears to be incredible depth at forward at the top of his class, and I suspect he could be flying under the radar, even with a 5-star ranking..

Scout has him 1 spot over Louis King who's another player of similar size/skill that might be similarly underrated.. 247 has Louis King as the #4 player in the class when most other services have him somewhere in the 15-30 range, King is 6'8" smooth and has a GREAT jumpshot, mentioned him a while back here.

a good Australian league team is probably about the standard of a 10-15 ranked college team. The top flight teams would be too fast and athletic and skilled but the Aussie league teams players are men with men's bodies so would physically overpower a lot of college teams save the top flight ones. They wouldn't develop a young prospects game all that much.

Just stopping by to see if anyone's got info/an opinion on a local player.

Here's a possible 2nd round sleeper/stash candidate/player to track for the road;

6'3" French CG Luc Loubaki, who was the youngest player in the ProA league getting minutes(10mpg) looks like a an interesting development project and like a player that would've been ranked pretty highly(at-least 4stars) if he came up thru a US HS.

DX has him ranked #30 in their International '97 rankings but that seems absurd considering their unwavering love of George De Paula Lucas..

He declared for the last draft, worked out for teams, his reason for withdrawing was to have a meniscus surgery apparently, which also caused him to miss the U20 tournament this summer..

Total freak athlete, effortless lift/extremely explosive and his build is ideal for his height.. lockdown defensive potential.. His skill on offense is very much a work in progress. Especially for a team with 4 2nd rd picks he could be worth taking a flier on, If he can show improvement staying under control offensively he'll be viewed in a totally different light..

One more for the Road;

@PKM this Trae Young quote seems to fly in the face of your early reports on Devin Booker at UK. Care to clarify?? I'm guessing your source was unaware Cal had come to this realization?

“Coach Cal. He told me a story about when they were recruiting Devin Booker it was understood that he was going to be on a three-year plan. He was gonna be there three years and then he was gonna leave for the NBA. His parents knew that and everything. Well, Coach Cal put him through a couple workouts when he got there and called his dad and said, “He’s gone this year. He’s out. He’s not coming back.” It was crazy because Coach Cal said his dad was still saying he planned on being there three years, but Coach Cal said no he was gone. He ended up being a lottery pick and he’s gonna be a franchise player. He just knew after a workout or two. Crazy.”

What were these earlier reports of mine you are referring to?
And I dare guess you are not picking a fight again, right?
